Delux iShow DLA-688 for squint-inducing videos
China's Delux isn't really breaking any new ground here, but their iShow DLA-688 stores the tunes, plays the vids, and does it all for 50 bucks. Sadly, the screen is a mere 1.8-inch LCD, and the video playback is that annoying MTV format which we see from time to time in budget players. Luckily, the 1GB of memory, FM radio, eBook reading, games and voice recording are a little more interesting, as is the USB 2.0 port. No word on availability.

All for 50 bucks? Shiiiit man! And it comes with 1GB memory? Jesus christ....it's hard to find a 1GB memory card for under 50 bucks...let alone one that can do all that carzy shit!
Wonder if it's got a card slot or something....some form of expandable memory...
Maybe through the USB port?
Someone's gotta figure out how to get Linux on this beast. :)

You know what'll really be eye squinting? If mobiBlu made the 3rd version of the cube have video playback. The 2nd version already has picture viewing. It's just a matter of time.
As for this player, I think it's got a good price. $50 is pretty good for a mp3/video/radio/voice recorder. Especially for 1GB. But hows the battery life? Oh, and the screen resolution?

I have one of these, not exactly this model, but it have the same functions, it doesn't have any expansion slots, the screen resolution for the 1.8 inch screen is 128x160 pixels, and for the 1.5 inch screen is 128x128 pixels. The radio works really good and there is direct recording from radio, the recording quality isn't really goood. The video format (AMV ou MTV depends which chip it uses) has a maximum frame rate of 12 sometime 16 but it can cause erros, but it is aprox. 140 MB for 45 minutes, battery last about 8 hours of music. It doesn't have playlist but it plays in the same sequence you tranfered the files. Some models have games. There is a picture viewer. The firmware can be modified, swap menu, start, shutdown images, but you can't add any features. There is a lot more information about these player (known as MP4 players but that is just the name) in s1mp3.org and www.mympxplayer.com (lots of stuff, complete themes, software anda a forum about this players)

I want to hear this "Unknown - Unknown" song thats playing on the player...

That thing is a pile of shit. This China factory buys canned memory, that dosnt work, and stack it - resulting in a device that neither works nor has any functionality.
iShit.

Why is it so hard to make a small MP3/AVI player that would play all the normal video formats and will not need converting to MTV?
noisia @ Jul 30th 2006 4:10PM
i think this is a nice piece for a nice price.
yes, it has some limits, but hey, it costs 50$, i cant find any player that has the same functions like this one for this price. i think it would cost almost the double.
if this player would be released in europe and the us, there fastly would be a hacked firmware that would enable to have acceptable framerates and maybe some more formats to play. should be easy makeable by real geeks i think.
at last i have to say: you shouldnt care about the smaller than possible functionality, it costs 50$ and 1 year after you buy a better player and didnt waste 300$ for a highend player that will be in the middle class at this time. a point you should think about.

This looks like a version version of the chip board. Tools, downloads, themes for these players can also be downloaded from http://www.mympxplayer.org as well (since mympxplayer.com has been replaced). Thanks.
