Shot surfaces of Nintendo DS headset
We know that Datel has already released such a product, but it finally looks like Nintendo is going to get into the game with a snazzy DS Lite-esque headset of their own. It only does the mono thing, so it'll be fine for taunting n00bs in Metroid Prime Hunters and communicating some forthcoming Pokémon games, but not so hot for stereo gaming. With that said, the unit should be out in Japan September 14th for around $10. We just want to know: whatever happened to DSpeak?

For the price, there's no reason not to pick this up if you're doing wi-fi gaming.
Though it doesn't look to be the most comfortable of setups...
I would've rathered a behind the head headset.
marcin @ Jul 31st 2006 7:51PM
wow that looks so cheap. i wouldnt bother paying 10 bucks for it.
Phillip K. Dick @ Jul 31st 2006 7:53PM
Correct me if I'm wrong but the connector looks like the one on the PSP - are you guys sure this isn't fan art?
Eli @ Jul 31st 2006 7:55PM
For $10 that's not bad I guess, but it looks like one of those super cheap $5 cell phone headsets you'd find at a mall kiosk.

I wanna know what the hell happened to DSpeak too! They are letting sony kick their ass in options right now, when the DS could be doing so much more. Can't someone at Engadget drop a friendly line to someone at Nintendo America and get the ball rolling on this? =)
Dolomite @ Jul 31st 2006 8:09PM
10 bucks is kinda expensive for this cheap looking thing. Maybe $3-$5 would be fair.
C Dizzle @ Jul 31st 2006 8:22PM
It looks like it might be stereo, notice how the single wire from the headset becomes a double wire at the plug. It might go to the other earpiece, then to the stereo wire.
Brandon @ Jul 31st 2006 8:22PM
Notice the cord coming out from the plug, it has two cords together while the one going into the headset only has one. Possibly an off screen earbud of Nintendo's super sneak attack stereo? I can't think of what else it would be. The plug also appears to be stereo, unless thats the speaker and mic, but I doubt it is since they obviously have that seperate little connector for something (mic, I presume).
_man1c_ @ Jul 31st 2006 8:28PM
hope one does come out soon. hate yelling into the small little mic thats integrated into the DS already....
Tyler @ Jul 31st 2006 8:28PM
You guys spelled Prime wrong .... you put prim :P
jordan @ Jul 31st 2006 8:36PM
hey does anyone see this as only a plus and a good step for Nintendo, if they release a headset for Wii, that I believe Miyamoto has hinted at, it would be FREAKIN AWESOME for online gaming!
JaXs @ Jul 31st 2006 9:19PM
i would rather have an adaptor so that i could use my own mic/headset
MrHorse @ Jul 31st 2006 9:49PM
Paul says it'll give you mono...
bophojones @ Jul 31st 2006 10:35PM
Looks like one of those cheap phone headsets painted white, and that looks JUST like a third-party PSP remote connector...but I don't have a DS. Is that what it looks like?
Quadrius @ Aug 1st 2006 9:09AM
Sexy. Now we just ahve to wait for them to make more games using the damn thing. Or to upgrade MP:H so we can use it in normal games.
Loban @ Aug 1st 2006 9:36AM
"Correct me if I'm wrong but the connector looks like the one on the PSP - are you guys sure this isn't fan art?"
Well then the PSP and the DS have the same connector, cause that's the type of connector needed to work with the DS lite.
Jason Preston @ Aug 1st 2006 8:36PM
Yeah this shot apparently showed up a little while ago on a Japanese site listing the accessory as a headset for the DS Lite.
Flicker spotted it on the 28th, plus 2 cents on the voice applications:

Although it seems just as another step for the ds it also looks kind of cheesy. It looks just like the ps2 headset but doesnt even have the back part...I guess it will be uncunfertable but i dont think nintendo would do that.
Fooly @ Apr 1st 2007 5:42PM
uhh..shouldnt it be wireless?
