Voodoo goes Core 2 with Omen i:121 Extreme
With Alienware having just added Core 2 Duo options to its Area-51 7500 desktop, you didn't really think that rival Voodoo would be far behind, did you? The boutique gaming rig manufacturer has just announced its OMEN i:121 Extreme tower, which crams a 2.93GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor into either a liquid- or air-cooled case designed to "operate at peak efficiency without draining excess power." Since video processing is even more important than CPU horsepower in a system like this, Voodoo is offering the new Omen with a number of graphics configurations, ranging from a single ATI Radeon X1900 or nVidia GeForce 7900GT setup all the way up to SLI or Crossfire dual-card powerhouses. You're also getting 2GB of RAM in the base configuration, along with a 7,200RPM 80GB hard drive and 16x dual-layer Pioneer DVD burner. As usual, pricing on these machines borders on the ridiculous, with SLI and Crossfire rigs starting at $4,400 and $6,000, respectively -- hey, no one said that being on the cutting edge of performance would come cheap.

WOW...a whole 2Mb of RAM
sounds like a bargain.
Only 2MB of RAM??????
Cant wait to play Battlefield 2 on that with its whole 2Mb of RAM.
What do tou do with the rest?!
holy crap
i'd buy this computer just for the amazing amount of RAM
a whole 2MB?!?!?!
thats insane.....
nevermind the 2 megs of ram, 4,400 bucks and you get an 80GB drive? that's an insult to all humanity.
I agree with Cuby, I mean seriously, a 80GB Hard Drive? Come on. Wow.
I hope you meant 800GB or something like that or hit a few keys wrong.
Hmmm.... once again, companies like to borrow Apple designs.
C'mon! Can't these guys do better then to copy the PowerMac G5 enclosure?
And I thought the Alienwares were teh ugly. You've got to go out of your way to make something as ugly looking as that.
"Can't these guys do better then to copy the PowerMac G5 enclosure?"
Dude, this enclosure is a copy of the G5 like a Hyundai is a copy of a Ferrari. Not even within the same galaxy. Ugly!!!
You'd think for $6 large you could expect a case that didn't look like a swap meet special. Guess not. I'd be ashamed to tell anyone I spent that kind of money on that cheap-looking heap.
One of the reasons that Voodoo is so overpriced is that they are based in Canada. If you look at any of the canadian online stores, you'll find that computer parts are 20-30% more expensive than US stores. If you factor that in, the markup is about the same as Alienware.
Come on once you have installed a few games that pore 80GB hard drive will be at bursting point
Hey guys, did it occur to you that possibly Voodoo systems are more focused on performance and efficency rather than bling-bling-my-case-is-hot? The case looks like its BTX (see the location of the power supply through the window) unlike the ATX cases people can't seem to part with.
Anyone else notice that if you squint real hard and look at one half of the logo on the front of that machine, it looks like a highly abstract version of the "mudflap girl"? Coincidence? I think not.
Voodoo simply modified a Lian Li PC-V1000 series case. And no it's not BTX it's upside down ATX many other companies are doing it. Doing so allows the heat from graphics cards not to mix with the cpu making it hotter.
Freaking annoying everytime someone accuses something of looking like a Mac it's like trying to talk to a brick wall car nuts do it to they think everything looks like a Mustang.
i have to agree: looks like the hyundia/G5.
Sure it may be all about speed, but do you really have to sacrifice every ounce of style for a little performance? you might as well make a BTX case out of a modded shopping cart.
FUGLY! (so much so that it just seems like a crappy home-made mockup.)
....and 2gb of ram, 80gb hard drive? what is this, 1999?
bah.
