Minox's new 8 megapixel shooter, the DC 8122
No one is going to accuse Minox of high-end aims, but their new DC 8122 camera is pretty nice all the same. Beyond that 8.1 megapixel CCD, they've packed in a bit of image stabilization (doesn't seem to be optical), a 6x zoom, and a nifty ability to focus on objects a close as 0.8-inches away. The camera is backed by a sizable 2.8-inch LCD, and Minox has managed it all in 1.1-inches of thickness. There are a few manual controls, and the usual 32MB of built-in memory and VGA video capability. No word yet on price or availability, but here's a hint: cheap.

This looks like a nice little camera. Decent optical zoom combined with the close focus option makes this a contender for something that would go in my vacation luggage. That big LCD is a great feature, too.

Geez, this looks suspiciously like the recently released Vivitar ViviCam 8600S, also an 8MP model, everything from the front--except for the logo, of course--right down to the menu control buttons on the back.

"high-end aims"?
You guys have no idea at all about the camera market, do you? Always with the snide remarks about Rollei, Voigtlander, and now Minox.
Minox IS a high-end camera company. Digicams are not their main market. They make mechanical cameras; one of the last companies to do so. Think "spy camera". Google "Minox TLX", or have a look at:
