Give the PlayStation 3 your
PlayStation or PlayStation 2 games, your original gray PSX controller, or the first dual shock
from back in the late '90s. But keep memory card to your damn self. Well, not really, but it does look like Sony will require an adapter on the PlayStation 3 to be able to read memory cards from
previous PlayStation consoles, as specified by their site. Not, not really a big deal at all unless they act all, um, Sony on us and don't bundle the adapter with the console. But we'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt though, as we wouldn't want to unduly accuse them of preparing to gouge consumers on a yet-to-be-released console, right?
Right, Sony? Ok, good, glad we've come to an understanding with one another.

"Tim" let me run this by you for the first AND last time, fool....
1: I AM the consumer, which makes me THE CUSTOMER.
2: This is a comment forum, where people state their OPINIONS on the topic at hand.
3: I make about as much in a week as you would make in 2 months (if you could even keep a job), so as stated...I AM MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU, as a consumer AND as a voice of the people. THANKS : )

You forgot to mention #4 - the fact that you have a very small penis. And no I've never seen it nor do I want to - but from the sound of it you may have a lot of money but you have little brains a lot of shortcomings. You're basically whats wrong with society and I have a feeling that if you were to post your picture here you'd look a little something like this guy:

Cheers!
Maybe the dude in the photo is just really tiny.
Its funny how people get pissed off about the so called "xbox fans" going on and on...when theres the same amount if not more PS fanboys doing the same on all 360 topics, not to mention even other stuff microsoft comes out with (ie. the zune, etc.)
So let people say whatever they want, and chill....i dont see why people get upset at stuff like this that doesnt affect them in any way...
Ryan, this was a realy bias post, you can do better than this. To improve, you must change. And thats what sony is doing, they are a good company and have been in the electronics industry for decades, show some respect and hey they have made some bad choices and the public opinion has fallen but whats so bad about this...i didnt know n64 controlers worked with the Wii, sony's legacy support is brilliant, hey you need to buy a usb adapter to get your saves of ffs7 off your psx memory card, big freaking deal.
Welcome to Fanboi central. Please keep your arms and legs inside the cart at all times.
Fact of the matter is, you need an adapter to transfer your save games. != Backwards Compatability. Sony should provide a plethora of different options too transfer your saves.
Rick..... you are a childish moron.... and you call Xbox fans....
I like my Xbox 360, but not so much a Sony fan.... ill still get all 3, and wont shout out my opinions till i have tryed them all.
do you want to know why?? because i cant tell the future and you do not know which will win and which will fail.
so shut up, sit down and grow up just that little bit extra.
And so... my $600 PS3 Price Tab just jumped too........ Well let's face it I couldn't afford it when it was at $600 ... It's all good though I can wait a year or two... and in between ..
ONE MORE REASON TO BUY THE WII
Sorry but you knew it was coming LOL!
Love the photo of the PS3, makes it look absolutely enormous! Nice one, Engadget!
Just another reason for me not to buy the PS3. Though, the adapter is small-time compared to the price, which is the #1 reason I won't, or rather, can't, buy a PS3. I simply don't have the money to. I'm not rich, I can't justify spending $600 on the console *and then* another $60-$70 on *one* game. I bought my 360, and I'm very happy with it.
I've just never really had an interest in much that the PlayStation's line-up had to offer, so I never bought one. That, and the controller's always felt awkward in my hands, especially with the D-Pad and right analog sticks switched. I like to have the analog right there, and reach for the D-Pad ('cause let's face it: how often do you use the D-Pad?)
And no, I'm not a fanboy. I also plan on buying the Wii when it comes out (2 consoles for the price of one?), because of the way the controller will change the playing of FPS's, and because I really can't wait for the new Legend of Zelda game.
Yes, I love Nintendo. I have since I got my GameBoy when I was 5 or 6. Their line-up has generally been weaker, yes, but I enjoy what they've given me. I tolerate Microsoft because I've been repeatedly satisfied by their gaming products and the solid line-ups for the consoles. But the only reason I can give myself to buy a PS3 from Sony would be MGS4, and can't justify spending $600 for one game. I'm not rich. That's about the only game that I'd be able to enjoy; its just the line-up issue.
So what it boils down to is Money, Selection, and Interest. I don't have enough Money to blow $600+, I prefer the Selections of other consoles, and the PS3 doesn't Interest me that much.
And if you do just spaz-flame me, I think you'll just give the rest of the readers a good idea of why our society is so messed up.
Since this has turned into a fanboy mud-slinging contest, I feel obliged to chime in.
First and foremost, the PS3 and Wii have yet to even hit the market. How can you declare a winner before they step into the ring? All you can do is look to the past to make an educated guess about the future. Traditionally, no console has ever won the console war above the $299 price point, ever. Xbox 360 may be on its way to break that tradition, but remember, it can also be purchased for $299. Second point, a console's success is not decided by its hardware, but by software available for it. Just look at this past generation for proof of that.
Take these factors and think about them for a minute. Right now things don't look real good for the PS3 unless they have plenty more great games coming down the pipeline for it.
First of all, everyone has known this since E3, so it's not exactly new stuff. Second, Sony probably thinks that anyone who is going to have 500 bucks for one of these things can probably afford an adaptor.
I'll stick with my 360 for now. maybe if I win the lotto and can afford all the "Sony Extras"
at least they made it backward compatible. :) hmm.. it's only 8MB anyway... lol
How fuckin dumb are you people.....criticizing the PS3 for something as TINY and insignificant as a memory card adapter.
You stupid xbox nerds DO realize that you CANT even play in HD because ur shitxbox isnt compatible with it.
But wait...you can always buy the ADD ON hd dvd drive!
durrr, "Looks like my xbox tab is going up, maybe if i win the lotto ill buy one"
Stupid Fucks.
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10304/Xbox-360-Transfer-Kit-Revealed
Case closed on saves for Xbox/360.
For All you guys complaining about Sony Charging for the PS2/PS1 Memory Card adapter, consider this.
On my XBox360 I had to;
Buy a Memory Card $50.
I had to buy a datel transfer kit $15.
I had to buy a datel XSata $50.
Then I had to copy a bunch of UDATA4b4e0002 Folders over.
No Idea which ones are for which games...
I blew away one of my KOTOR Saves (My Darkside Path)
Some of the Saves (Doom3) did not work.
So Microsoft doesn't even offer a solution for their Backwards compatibility, and it cost me $115 to get most of my saves to my 360 for the small handful of games that are even Backwards Compatible.
At Least sony is offering a Solution.
360 Sucks, Microsoft Sucks.
Most of my Nextgen games will be bought for my PS3.
I'm only keeping the 360 for Halo 1,2,3 and the current library I have.
My 360 Overheats and Locks up if I play it longer than 3 hours.
Chromehounds has been known to KILL several XBox360s, if you don't believe me check the XBox360Fanboy site.
So all of you XBox Fanboys can be taken with a grain of salt. The 360 is nowhere close to Backwards Compatible.
It is about 5% Backwards Compatible.
So Sony will only be 99% Backwards Compatible. So the Wii will only be 99% Backwards compatible.
Atleast they are BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE.
To address the Comment About the PS3 being $600+
My 360 Cost...
Console $399 (The $299 is unusable, where will you save)
XBox Live is $50 EVERY YEAR! So I can Online Game.
That is $450 and Climbing EVERY YEAR!
PS3 is $499. It is Not $599.
The $499 gets you more features than the 360.
The PS3 Online service Offers Online Gaming NO CHARGE.
I own a 360 so I know. My 360 Cost me MORE. I got mine in November so When the PS3 Hits, I'll get another XBoxLive Yearly Charge putting me at $499 for My 360...
Then if you add in the $115 it cost me to get my XBox1 Saves onto my XBox360 .
If I wanted the HD-DVD Player for my 360 I would be at $699... I don't by the way... I will be going with Sony from now on... I can't afford to go with Microsoft.
You 360 Fanboys are like a strange cult.
Anyone on the fence about going 360 or PS3...
Take it from me. The 360 IS NOT CHEAPER!!!
LOL @ the picture. Could you be a bit more pathetic Engadget?
i really don't get this doesn't anyone see the whole fact that the 360 doesn't even have an adapter and the only way to get saves over is to open up your computer and xbox. Im pretty sure 360 can't play atleast half the games on the xbox. In my opinion the adapter should come packaged it would be awsome if it was but that would be idiotic.
