When a massive installed base of a particular product holds the potential to save the collective world literally, um, minutes per day, that's when you know you're on to something. The 20x DVD burner is coming people, and Lite-On is preparing the charge to make these puppies shoot right past today's 16x drives (and tomorrow's 18x drives) so you can burn a DVD in about five minutes and thirty seconds compared to the six-some-odd minutes it takes today. Oh, and no, that's not one of the drives off to the right, that's some laggard's burner that doesn't record at 26 megs per second -- what a loser.

Who cares. I can't even burn a dvd at 16x without getting some kinds of errors. Why risk more errors when you cant even get a good burn a 16x. Burning at 8x is better anyways.....

So by the time Blu-Ray is in Apple Mac Pro's there will be at least 20x DVD-R. How about 24 or 25x DVD-R by the time Blu-Ray is in the iMac?

20x, woohoo. I want to seem some quality media first. Something that you can actually use for a long term backup.

Oh Boy.... LiteOn used to be a good brand untill Sony started making the interals for them. At our 4 stores we stopped carrying LiteOn due to enormous failure rates. I find it odd that the 3rd tier brands always come out with the newest tech only to have someone else wait untill it works and make a better unit than them.. Phillips anyone?
Lite-Off

My Lite-On drive failed...they need to fix their own useless products before making a new one.

Yeah.... when Lite-ON did NOT use SONY to make their internal components, they rocked hardcore! now they're becoming crap and fast! I bought a brand new SHM-165H6S, a 16x DVDRW DL w/ lightscribe, it worked amazingly for the first month, now it barely reads anything, still writes perfect though... as they say.. lite-off! I'm sticking w/ nec drives and samsungs which also seem to be awesome.
