Casio's rounding out that expanded lineup of fairly capable portable and ultraslim consumer cameras today the last of their three new 7.2 megapixel shooters. Their highest end 17mm thick $380 EX-S770 features 3x optical, a bright 1100cd/m2 2.8-inch display sure to kill that battery right quick, VGA MPEG-4 movie recording, in 16:9, anti-shake DSP, and "PHOTO TRANSPORT," a method for moving photos from your PC to your camera for informational and entertainment purposes (gee, whoda thunkit?). Not too dissimilar from their $300 21mm thick
EX-Z700 (with a 2.7-inch LCD), or their $250
EX-Z70. All feature that Casio eBay mode (for taking high detail, low res pics, we assume?), and should be shipping in September.

The battery life on my EX-S500 is amazing, so if they are using the same tech, they could afford the battery drain from the brighter screen. A good trade-off in my opinion.

I also have an EX-S500 and the battery lasts for weeks/months. I never bring a charger on vacations and usually take about 200-500 pics on trips without ever having to look at the battery indicator. When i do look at it afterwards, its rarely below 50% still.
I love it.
bart @ Aug 8th 2006 11:57AM
Actually, that "PHOTO TRANSPORT" is a really good feature on a digital camera. Compared to my canon sd200, once I put the pictures on my computer and change the folder/file set up, I am unable to view them on my camera (by simply putting them back on the card). With this though it would be a lot easier...

Battery life on the Exilims is amazing. I took my Z750 to Hawaii for 10 days, filled up my 2gb card 2.5 times with a mix of photos and videos, including quite a few night shots, and only recharged once about 7 days into the trip. Coming back, I moved and couldn't find the charger for 3 weeks. During those three weeks I used it off and on, but didn't run down the battery till the end.
I've heard that the newer Exilims have even better batteries, so I agree that having a brighter display will be just fine.

wohohoow!! beauty! the whole zoom lens come out from that thin body! And hearing about the battery life from these guys, I think i'm gonna get mine this weekend! Been thinkin about gettin a digicam for a while now, and this seems amazin.

As a former Casio phone jockey, I would like to point out that Casio's warrenty doesn't cover the lens or screen. Also, extended warrenties do not start until after the manufacturer's warrenty has ended (1 year in Casio's case), so you may end up with a broken camera until you can get it repaired/replaced by your extended warrenty (For example, Circuit City refuses to honor theirs until the year has ended).
However, knowing what I do about Casio's cameras, I would still purchase an EX-S770 or more likely, an EX-Z850 (I never got to see the EX-Z1000 so I can't comment. If it's anything like the Z750 or Z850, it's worth the money). Also, the software that comes included with the cameras is a joke. :)

Veezay!!,
you're not going to be able to get it this weekend...cause it says it will be available in September in the US :)
oh yeah and battery life is 200 shots per charge

Thought I'd just add some more kind words about the Exilim range. I also own an EX-S500 and it's really great. Battery life is fantsastic as has already been mentioned. The screen is always visible, good button layout, easy menus, and above all takes good photos. Slim as an ice cube's chances in hell too; it's nice and easy to carry around in your pocket which can be very useful when you're on holiday and don't want to have to lug around conspicously valuable hunks of gadget.

this camera is some sort of amazing ...
I have the EX-z60, which defintely isn't as slim or anything, but the battery life is also amazing. in previous cameras i'd be changing my gay AA batteries pretty much every hour. now i don't need to worry for atleast 2 days of taking continuos pictures. i love it. i love this line of cameras...

I'm having the same problem! It's just been sitting in a drawer for about a month since I last used it.
Bobfab @ Nov 16th 2007 8:28AM
My Exilim died also - same symptoms: no power, blank screen. Won't charge - even when the green charger light on the cradle is lit for 24 hours. I bought a new battery (expensive suckers, aren't they?), and that worked for a while, then the same thing happened. Something must be draining the battery and killing it, or the charger is not working even though the indicator light is on.
Gwen @ Nov 18th 2007 10:34PM
You need a new battery. Same thing happened to mine.
Benner @ Nov 27th 2007 7:39AM
When I first saw this camera I was in love with it! Now that I just bought it it wont work. Got home charged it the red light was flashing but after 6hrs still wont turn on. I checked the battery if I put it on right its Ok. Iam I doing someething wrong here or is this a regular model problem? and oh yeah nice manual pretty useless. If I cant fix this problem by tomorrow this baby is going back where it came from.
Dianne @ Dec 26th 2007 8:24AM
I bought an EX-Z75 late this fall. Put the battery in the charger yesterday and it blinked for a couple hours and still nothing. My grandaughter had the same problem. She bought hers a couple months before me. She just bought a new battery and it seems to be working. I don't think you should have to replace a battery after only using the camera 5 times. Any idea's. I am ready to send mine back. Not real happy.
Misuzu @ Feb 18th 2008 11:42AM
I'm never buying from Casio again. I'm very sad with my camera.
It hasn't even been the year, and like the cases above^, the battery, even though i charge it fully, it works for a ltitle--then dies out really fast.
I am NOT going to buy a new battery every half a year. -.-
Very dissapointed with this camera.
Im going to, hopefully get a SAMSUNG digital camera soon.
I'd rather buy a GOOD camera, then waste money on buying new batteries for this crap casio exlim camera over and over again.
Sheila @ Aug 31st 2008 2:00PM
Worked fine until today. I cannot turn the camera on. A complete waste of money!
