Samsung announces 3-inch VGA LCD for digital cameras
Samsung has taken the wraps off what they claim to to be the world's first 3-inch VGA LCD that meets industry standards for use in digital cameras. With a 300nit brightness and 350:1 contrast ration, the 640 x 480 LCD also promises to consume less power than displays currently used in digital cameras, operating on a 30Hz source driver instead of the 60Hz commonly used now, as well as employing a so-called "dot inversion scheme" that reduces flickering associated with 30Hz LCDs. We're assuming the water is intended to show how sharp the image is, not that it's waterproof, but you never know. Commercial production is set to begin in the first half of 2007.

30Hz? Oh great, so it's limited to showing movies at 30fps or lower and it may cause eppilepsy.
I'll stay with 60Hz, thanks.
Vertigo @ Aug 10th 2006 5:05PM
Well since movies are normally 24 frames per second and MPEG-2 is at most 29.97fps, I don't think the 30fps limit is too big an issue...
Guffy @ Aug 10th 2006 6:53PM
Also, maybe this type of display will be used for the new Vista laptops for the secondary display (that is visible when the laptop is closed, so you can see if you have new emails and such). Unless they've changed their mind and no longer including a small secondary display.

Not that small. The VGA LCD on my XDA Exec is what?, 3.6-inch?

wow. thanks. i didn't realize low-frame rates actually *caused* epilepsy. i always thought it was if you happened to be a photosensitive epileptic... you could have a seizure. but no. apparently the low-frame rates can actually cause it. impressive.
i've heard the range goes from a low of 2Hz to a high of 55Hz or so. meaning it must suck to live in a country using PAL. i guess all of the UK and mainland Europe have epilepsy now? you'd think that'd be mentioned on the news.
Pedro @ Aug 11th 2006 9:36AM
A frame rate is not the same as the refresh rate. If the refresh rate is 60Hz but a movie plays at 1FPS, it is still redrawn 60 times.
Epilepsy occurs at about 3Hz-59Hz.
And some movies do play at more than 30FPS, for example game demos and certain other rendered movies.

does it come with blue french-tipped nails?
