Best Buy: "Media Center - OLD / DO NOT USE"
Best Buy Canada's online megastore wants to break it down for you about the HP A1410N Media Center they have on sale for a mere $644.97 (after $55 mail-in rebate): it's old and should not be used. Maybe they're trying to cover their asses in case of buyer's remorse (obsolescence is now instantaneous), maybe it's one of those rare instances of truth in advertising, or maybe, just maybe, they're using some powerful reverse psychology on us, telling us not to use the HP A1410N so that we'll lust after it that much more. It has to be something, because we just ordered a half-dozen of 'em.

They probably meant an old "ad", no not use this "page".
Of course it works for both the page and the product.
Links gone already.
This is the funniest thing I have ever seen.
MUST.....BUY....OLD....OBSELETE....PIECE...OF...CRAP!!!
Looks like it was pulled and the whole "Media Center" Section of the site has also been removed. Maybe this was where the "Do Not Use" part was really coming from, to remove the "section" and not accent the Media Center PCs as a different kind of computer. (and someone ignored it and kept the Media Center Section up anyway.)
Just a Funny note: Looks like the above mentioned model of the HP Media Center PC (once you can find it on the site) has now been sold out online.
It's not news, it's just something funny that I felt like posting. Engadget isn't CNN, it's a blog where we write about everything we think is interesting or relevant or funny. If you want straight news I'm sure there's an AP newswire you can subscribe to.
When I used to work at CompUSA there were dozens of old SKUs in the system with descriptions like that "do not use" It looks like one of these old SKUs slipped through the cracks and made it onto the website. Or sometimes an ad would come out with an old discontinued product that they must have gotten a deal on and suddenly brought it back under the same SKU. Maybe the description just did not sync up in time to prevent it from hitting the site.
I worked at Best Buy and we always had Old - Do Not Use on products. It just means that the SKU is old, do not use it, there is a new one in the system. Why would they put it on the site? Well, if you mouse over the picture, you are able to get the 7 digit sku, so that is probably why they had that up there I would think like that.
I keep coming back to Engadget for the funny comments - like this one:
"It has to be something, because we just ordered a half-dozen of 'em."
I own this HP Computer model. Do I need to get a new one?
So typical of Best Buy, selling outdated technology at premium. There's never a dull moment with those a$$holes.
o those canadians
If you're curious, go to the site and search "old do not use". There are 17 results, none of which are visible in the results.
WHEN I WAS AT BEST BUY AROUND JANUARY, I WENT TO CHECK A PRICE ONLINE THROUGH THIER COMPUTERS AT THE STORE. I NOTICED WHEN YOU HIT ADD TO BASKET IT DID NOT OFFER THE SALE PRICE. WHEN I WENT HOME IT OFFERED THE SALE PRICE. THIER SLICK. THEY HAVE THEIR ONLINE SYSTEM RIGGED FOR THE STORE ONLY.
You saw the "in-store / kiosk" version of bestbuy.com. It shows everything at regular price. Employees can check the "web-pricing" version of the site to match prices.
