Logitech's VX and MX Revolution mice
Logitech went back to the drawing board on the MX Revolution and VX Revolution mice, and here's what they came up with: the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel, which enables force feedback application support. Basically the heavy-feeling alloy wheels (of which there are two on the MX, and one on the VX) can spin freely and smoothly for up to seven seconds with a flick of your finger, or lock into the regular ratcheted scrolling motion like most of us are used to, depending on usage (the VX requires a flipped switch to toggle between the modes), the application, and your system's settings. It's kinda one of those things you have to try for yourself to really appreciate (we got to play with one a few weeks back), but if you're already sold and don't have any problems with your mice once again having dozens of moving parts, the Revolution series will set you back $99 or $79, respectively.

This mouse has been a great comrade frag'n opponents left and right in UT3, Crysis etc. I like using it in Crysis cuz I can program all the usefull buttons into the MX Revolution, the setpoint software helps alot. But now it won't charge after putting it on the dock. It does blink green as if it's charging but then starts blinking red, I've even cleaned the sh*t out of it. I'm wondering if it's the battery, I've seen someone open one of these suckers up and found like an AA battery or something or maybe that was the VX I duno, I opened mine up and found a lithium-like square battery. I just want to know if anyone has replace theirs or do I have to send it to logitech?
VX seems to still use 2.4ghz. WHY???
Can't seem to find the info for the MX. Anyone see it?
i seriously hope this is better than that piece of s*** MX5000 wireless desktop kit i just bought.... the mx1000 is a great mouse, but + bluetooth + keyboard = :(
Two scroll wheels? Why?
for those who actually work on a computer the scroll by the tumb takes strain off the index finger.. I think its great and that's why I'm getting one.
@Mini-Me
Horizontal and vertical scrolling is why.
Actually you're wrong. The side one doesn't scroll. Horizontal scroll is performed by tilting the top scroll wheel left or right.
Two scroll wheels - Double the scroll speed or some gimmick to try and get at M$ & Razer new mouse which they have released together
"Two scroll wheels? Why?"
Horizontal and vertical?
Maybe give it a small ball like the craptastic Might Mouse.
This is sweet... my friends will once again call me stupid to spend so much money on a mouse, but it's just the way best of the MX series make me feel inside (: First MX700, then MX1000 and now MX Revolution.
Not sure about the 2nd scroll usability though... we'll see.
only the top wheel scrolls, the one on the side is just for nudging or something. Very misleading. BUT I STILL WANT IT!!!
Who wants CORDLESS!?
NOT ME!
First MX700, then G7, I might even want this if it weren't so butt ugly.
"Who wants CORDLESS!?"
ME!
Crawl out of your cave, the dark ages are over.
"can spin freely and smoothly for up to seven seconds with a flick of your finger"
Yeah right, it might for a week, but after all the crud starts to build up it'll be nothing more than a nice marketing blurb.
"Crawl out of your cave, the dark ages are over."
Go visit a pro gaming tournament and count the number of players using cordless mice. I bet there won't be more then 10%.
blot: Crawl back into your cave. I want my computer to power my mouse. I don't want to have a power cord for every peripheral attached to my computer.
bazald: which noncave environment do you live in were wireless mice have their own power cord? almost all wireless mice with docks recharge through the computers PSU
I (heart) Logitech. Best mouses ever. I have a G5, very nice mouse if you skip the crap "gaming" software that came with it.
And these... I will love them if they work well with the standard windows drivers.
I need a cable, too - only way to go for laptops.
The only wireless mouse I would accept has Bluetooth 2.0, NO LAG, Li-Ion battery, tiny retractable USB cable which can recharge mouse / run mouse off the USB port.
There are some mouses out there which have some of these features, but none which have all. Logitech is usually out because they have a RF-USB plug and a cradle. Neither is acceptable for laptop use.
It's a *lot* easier to carry my G5 around, it has a very nice cable and does not require recharging and has zero lag.

Where's the left-handed version?
WHere's the left-handed version?
One should not be looking for the same characteristics in a heavy, dual metal scroll wheel mouse as one does in say, a lightweight gaming mouse. The real question is whether the dual scroll wheel is useful to some, and whether there are fatal, unnoticed flaws.
"almost all wireless mice with docks recharge through the computers PSU"
The point is it's still a cord. So you're not gaining anything. And you're losing precision and potentially gaining interference. Not to mention adding unnecessary weight with the batteries.
I'm all for cordless as a general principle but in mice, it's just kind of pointless.
Will they make an equivalent but corded version? I really detest cordless mice ...
My MX1000 has an AC adapter. Best wireless mouse I ever tried...but still not as good as wired. Perhaps the lag was a figment of my imagination, but it's impossible to be as light as a wired mouse, like my current G5.
Speaking of which, the G5 has the nicest cord I've seen on a mouse. It's covered in a fabric weave, which seems to make it less prone to snagging.
Why do they always forget the lefties!?!?
I REALLY want to know whether the freespinning wheel goes *WHIZZZZZZZ!* or spins quietly.
It is super silent, in fact, it is too silent, and, you don't get the pleasurable feeling that "I just Scrolled", if anyone sees what I mean. +This will happen to you every ten seconds, and suddenly: whooops? did I just miss my file? I don't know because it went sooooo fast that I can't even tell ,or, I scrolled too much and now it just won't go back. (for me at least) All in all it is a cool feature, but it goes just a tad too fast.
It's a freakin' computer, it's going to have some cables, quit your whinnin'! Use a wireless mouse (and only a wireless mouse) for a few days, then come back and post. The future has arrived, but it must have skipped the train station you were waiting at.
I like this mouse. It looks like Darth Vader. I like peripherals that look like Darth Vader. It makes me feel sinister and naughty when I use them. I used to use a Logitech infrared at work. I loved it. Now I use a Wacom tablet and stylus, but when 'netting I love the flexibility of a wireless mouse.
I hear that Ned's Leftorium has them at a great price for all you southpaws!
Now, all Logitech has to do is make a white one, and they'll have my 80 dollars in the bag. Does anyone expect me to use that color with a MacBook? I mean, why else get a Mighty Mouse?
P.S. How many other Elis are there on this site? Are you the only one, other Eli?
"Go visit a pro gaming tournament and count the number of players using cordless mice. I bet there won't be more then 10%."
This is NOT a gaming mouse. Unless you're a retard, or really do live in a cave, chances are you use a cordless mouse for everyday computing and gaming. Pro gamers may use a corded mouse for tournaments, but chances are they use a good cordless mouse any other time.
I adore my MX1000. Never noticed lag. But I use a Razer Copperhead for gaming. No lag, obviously, but the cord often feels stiff and will affect my movement. Makes me realize how much I adore wireless for 99% of my use.
However, these mice seem like too much is tacked on.
Very nice design for day-to-day use. For gaming I'll stick to a Razer. I'm too used to the 2button 1wheel design so they aren't for me. But it's all about personal preference.
Revrant, that is hilarious. I just saw that scenario happen at a Starbucks. A guy with a Mac using a non-white mouse got 'caught' by his friends and he got so embarassed he unplugged the mouse and shoved it in his pocket. He acted like he was caught with his pants down.
I swear nobody can make a decent Bluetooth mouse. That's about the only reason I won't go Logitech, them and their dongles. And when it comes to the Mighty Mouse Wireless there still is the problem with left/right click errors.
So basically Logitech took what Microsoft did in software (accelerated scrolling) and built it into the hardware. Whoopie do.
Hey nikster
you should check out the Radtech mouses. http://www.radtech.us/Products/Default.aspx#CategoryBluetooth
I have a BT 600 and it meets all your requests cept the retractable cord part but it does charge via usb and the cord is nice and small
Well even though i love logitech and all i think these mouses are gonna suck! I have a Logitech V400 for my laptop and a MX1000 for the desktop. These mouses are amazing, I see no lag in either when i play CS:S (even though im horrible). They're too gimicky and gay. Maybe they are ergonomic and stuff, but whats it matter. I would consider buying the VX for my laptop but the MX is way too overdone.
they always forget lefties because they're arrogant pricks that aren't really creative and don't know anyone who is. if they were/did you'd see a left-handed version of these devices.
The thumb scroll wheel will also allow you to "flip" panes in Vista. (like ALT-TAB does today)
WHERE THE HELL IS A NEW MX300!!! The ultimate gaming mouse, the best ever made! Would like to have it with a laser and a smoother scroll wheel, thats all i have to say! The shape was EXELENT!
test...sorry
Just got it, i get the same feeling now when useing a standard scroll wheel mouse as i did useing one with no wheel once i got used to the scroll wheel, I keep trying to spin my wheel on my laptop mouse :( and ive only had it three days! the new wheel is AMAZING. on that note, dont buy this mouse, design flaws, the little search button is too close to the wheel and gets touched accidentaly, and the second wheel seems... well, useless, it cant be reasigned, and the document swap feature sucks(i hope they release a good mouse tools update that allows more options, or i'll be sorely disapointed). Overall, an AMAZING new mousewheel, on a crapy mouse design :(
buy the next one they release with this wheel instantly, and hopefully enough people(like me) have purchased this one for logitech to keep the mousewheel design.
Did I mention this is an amazing mouse wheel? cuz it is, its caused me to google "huge list" just to find stuff to scroll thru... I can scroll an entire 400kb link list in one finger flick....
have had this mouse for a month, honestly, i LOVE it!
For some of you that hates cordless you must admit that it does help with the clutter behind your desk (and with a wirless keyboard, i reduced the wires to just a WHOPPING THREE).
Features(buttons):It is very convient, the document scroll helps you flip through different windows, great for doing research or chatting with friends *if you have any*, search button(button on the very top) makes search the web as easy as literally a click of a button, simply highlight the word(s) you need to search and CLICK. Hyper fast scrolling, as mention is fast! and once you get used to it, other mouses with scrolls are obsolete IMO.
Performance: response time is lightning fast with absolutely NO LAG (unless your computer just sucks). Although i dont like the fact that i have to charge it, but the batery life is amazing. For someone like me, who uses the internet frequently for Homework/research, chatting, and gaming, every button has its features. Of course you can reassign the buttons to your preference.
This CAN be used for a gamer actually. A main factor is the sheer size. Obviously it isn't small, but fits a gamers hand FLAWLESSLY, and quite comfortable.
I've had my VX for about two weeks now and I must say I'm disappointed. 2 reasons:
#1 I bought it because of the free spinning wheel which is really cool, when it works. If you want to give it a big spin it will crank on down the page. If you want to move a couple of lines, sometimes it works, other times it does nothing.
#2 The left button is now intermittedly working (and sqeaking). If you push hard or up towards the center of the mouse, it will work.
I can live with the wheel thing, but the left button not functioning is kind of a dealbreaker.
Dave
The second wheel does nothing useful. The mouth is bluetooth connected so lag is a huge problem. Don't even try to use it for the most basic games, you will do nothing but frustrate yourself. This mouse may look cool, but it's a downgrade from the MX1000.

Correction: this mouse is not Bluetooth, it just acts like it. I've been told to avoid having any other 2.4 ghz device near it, make sure it's not on the back of a computer with a metal case, and to have it blessed by a shaman before connection. That, or stick the MX1000.
I read all topics and found this:
Mx Revolution Overall (Pro's & Cons):
1. Cool and fast wheel definately
2. Extremely Ergonomic (bit large for gaming)
3. Wireless BUT Lagging is possible when there are other 2.4ghz devices around!
4. Some people dislikes 2nd scroll cause it's not too configurable
5. The search button is handy BUT sometimes it get clixked accidently when scrolling!
6. Rechargeable Battery with up to 10hours of FUN...but in the end it needs to be recharged!
7. The mouse is heavier thanks to the battery!
VX revolution Overall (Pro's & Cons):
1. Same as Mx except for the 2nd wheel that doesnt exist!
2. Smaller which is a great thing towards Mx
3. Very handy Zoom button (To work with image editing is perfect because of its precision, and scrolling could be assigned to something else while editing!)
4. Read problems about left clicking and wheel bug related to the fact that it is difficult to just scroll some lines! Probably the mouse is malfunction (which in some cases happens), with lag problems or it´s just a question of configuration!
Well, that's pretty much it! It is indeed the most advanced mouse ever invented...but many would prefer a "G5 Version with that fantastic scrool wheel" (for example of course) Or a "Mx revolution with 0 LAG inssurance" that or a corded one! ;)
That's all folks!
I had the pleasure of having Logitech send me a Logitech MX Revolution to review, and now at work I curse the fact that I only have one. Its one of those things that once you start to use it, the bar that is your computer experience rises. The closest comparison is dual monitors vs a single monitor. The scroll wheel is my favorite feature especially for web development, or even should the need arise scroll through 3000+ emails in Outlook with a single flick of your wrist. Its sexy and functional, what else can you ask for in a mouse?

I bought a VX Revolution about 6 months ago. I LOVE the hyperscroll feature. The feel is the best I've used. But I have a huge problem with this mouse. At times, it refuses to send clicks to the computer. It looks like it clicked. It gives you visual feedback of a click accept it won't actually perform the click event.
For example, when it decides to not perform, you can click on a tab and it won't go to that tab. You can click 50 times in different places on the tab and it won't go there. Generally the only "solution" is to click on another object on the screen and then come back to the tab. Then it usually (but not always) accepts the click.
This is extremely frustrating. I have to keep my old POC mouse on my desktop for times when it won't accept a click.
I've downloaded the latest logitech drivers several times. They make it worse. It works best under microsofts standard optical mouse configuration.
Has anyone encountered these issues? Have you resolved them?
I love this mouse. It's feel and hyperscroll are awesome. But I can't handle the no-click clicks.
No the second scroll wheel on the side is a document flip. just movingg it back and forth switchs which screen on your desktop you are on. ITS NOT A SCROLL WHEEL! it does not spin 360. I own this mouse and it works great UNLESS you use wireless. It interferes and freezes the mouse expecially when browsing the internet.
