Wow. James Bond used to display imaginitive, far-fetched, fantastical gadgets.
Now he's just a product-placement whore.
Won't be seeing this movie.
Hahahaa..this is the future of movie production. Look at the Transformers movie .. Jazz is a freakin Pontiac Solstice .. he went from a racer Porche to a freakin Pontiac that your hairdresser drives --> lame.
I can't wait for the one scene where he throws a Dell laptop battery into the S.P.E.C.T.E.R. get-a-way vehicle. KaBoom!
"Now he's just a product-placement whore."
Only just caught on have you?
Any time you see a computer in a movie the first thing you see is a tight shot of the logo.
I'm probably one of the few people who welcome Bond's return to his roots. As long as he isn't bringing down an interstellar mothership with his Vaio.
I understand Q will NOT be making an appearance in this movie. Bond is changing, but for the worse I fear. Hopefully, there is some humor in this motion picture.
The actor who played Q has been dead for nearly 5 years now? That's why he won't be in it.
"Bond is changing" seems to be the lament here. But although this is a gadget site, the most lamentable feature of Bond that is changing is Bond himself. A short blond guy to play James Bond? Are they serious?
http://www.danielcraigisnotbond.com
And then they have the gall to not include the third most important feature in a Bond movie (the gadgets). If you have to ask what the 2nd one is, you're not a Bond fan.
I for one welcome our product-placing, electronics-consuming, car-destroying.... oh wait, wrong entry.
"The actor who played Q has been dead for nearly 5 years now? That's why he won't be in it."
They could still have R. I liked him.
john cleese was Q-redux in Die Another Day (2002) and pretty funny. He's still alive.
"Vesper Lynd"?? What ever happened to names like "Pussy Galore" and "Plenty O'Toole"? Maybe I just don't get it.
"They could still have R. I liked him."
They can't have R in the movie and have it follow the correct storyline because R was Q's replacement. This movie is supposed to be the first Bond movie, before Bond had his license to kill, so if anything, they'd have to have a young Q.
I do wonder how they're going to handle "M", though, because Judi Dench is still playing M and she's getting a bit, well, aged. :)
Wierd lookin' guy too. Who the crap cast this guy?
"I understand Q will NOT be making an appearance in this movie. Bond is changing, but for the worse I fear."
Q wasn't in every Bond movie prior to Desmond's passing.
I agree on the M point though. They really, really shouldn't have kept Dench as M. I feel it's only going to cause confusion among some people, whereas a new actor could have helped them cope with the reboot.
OK... lets clear up some facts:
1) Q is called Q because he is the Quartermaster the whole "If you're Q then does that make him R" was a bad joke by bond. When Cleese took over from Lewellyn he became the new Quartermaster and hence Q
2) The grappling hook watch first appeared in Goldeneye and not TWINE
3) Casino Royale is a prequal to all the other bond films so JB is becoming 007 and therefore wont have all the random gadgets that he has been accustomed to
4) Daniel Craig will make a good, gritty bond - he was awesome in Layer Cake and in the TV series Archangel. Give him a chance - Roger Moore was hardly dark haired!
5) If you want to look at product placement check out X3 when they are in their plane one of the passenger seats is clearly seen to be labelled PS3.
Q CANNOT be in Casino Royale. This is a film based on the FIRST James Bond novel, and thusly, the first story where he becomes a 00-agent. A prequel, if-you-will, that was actually written first, but never adapted for the screen (aside from a 1950's TV version, and a 70's spoof film).
Also, if you recall, Q and Bond first meet in a prior film so having Q in this film would destroy continuity.
I thought the new bond car was a Fiat Panda because they didn't have to buy it, five or so were given for free to the movie.
Yay I told Engadget about the story on iPodHub!!!!!!!
John I have read Aston Martin is given for free to the movie.
This is a link to the Aston Martin DBS GREAT!!!

whaddya mean "rumored" to have a DBS? the promo shots and press releases have been out months!
A short blond guy to play James Bond?
----
I wouldn't call 5'11 short. There are gadgets in the film (not mentioned in the article) which include a defibrillator, a 3D GPS tracking device, a pinhole microphone and bug.
and rumoured to be the DBS? It's been official for about a year, even more so when you think the DBS was designed especially for Casino Royale.

Rumours - the Bond cars the DBS and the classic DB5
Worst possible actor chosen to play Bond. The guy who played 'Stephen Saunders' on season 3 of 24 would have been a good choice. The phone is so-so.
So is Bond going to use the battery on his VAIO for some destructive purpose?
wibble, JohnnyC, THANK YOU. People need to realize that this movie is based on the first James Bond novel. The movies have never been exact copies of the books, but this movie will apparently be a truer interpretation (the books are great). That said, Judi Dench will be playing M, perhaps leading to a little confusion (given that this is a prequel). I remember reading somewhere that they decided to include fewer gadgets on purpose and instead focus on plot. Oh, and to be fair, check out http://www.danielcraigisbond.com as well.
i too salute wibble and JohnnyC. nice to have some well-informed comments (albeit not too gadget-related). definitiely a great choice for Bond. it was all getting just a little too camp for my liking. i too hate the product placement but hey, that's the commercial reality these days.......unfortunately.
im sure the fiats will appear somewhere, just like Die Another Day had a tbird for a whole 5 seconds
Let's give the guy a break until November when the movie is released. The new car is another Aston Martin .. DBS.
Here's to the Royal Premiere showing and all the glitz etc.
Regards
007 Bond Supplement
Big Big Fan of James Bond, not so sure on the new guy but I'll comment once I see the movie. If you want to do your own James Bond impressions there's a great site on the net http://wwwthespyshop.ws check it out if you get a chance.
Walt_Mink "whatever happened to..?" is a misplaced question. Ian Fleming created the name Vesper Lynd before he created Pussy Galore.
BTW... if there were a succession of Q for Quartermaster to R for Redux, then the next letter would be S for Sony. So, there's your continuity.
Did anyone catch the name of the brand of watch that Bond tells Lynd is his favorite? She makes the comment, "not a Rolex" ... then, he names a brand that I've never heard of.
When Vesper asks Bond if his favorite watch is a Rolex ... he says "no, it's an Omega."
