The RV with a slide-out roadster hold
Recreational vehicle enthusiasts love to be able to bring their favorite mod cons with them on their annual road trips, so German RV manufacturer Volkner Mobile's idea to develop a motor home capable of storing an entire car in its underbelly is sure to be popular with those that can afford the undoubtedly high pricetag. All it needs is a green paint job, a big number "2" on both sides and you've set up every Thunderbirds fan in the country for a month of restless nights: this pointlessly excessive system definitely makes it the Tracy family's day tripper of choice. The car storage system itself consists of a 5 meter long movable plate that sits between the front and rear wheels, and is short enough to cater for low, roadster type cars. The motor home will be on display at the International Caravan Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany for the next few days: if you're at the show, just look for a stressed out attendant surrounded by hundreds of kids screaming at him to do the car storage thing again.[Via Autoblog]

RVs are so cool. :) I'm serious. :)
TIMMAH! @ Aug 29th 2006 6:13PM
Now if you can only join like 5 of these RVs together into the form of a giant robot...

Hi John Q here. Can I order one for the U.S. and one for Europe. This way I will be able to burn gas in both locations!
Jesse @ Aug 29th 2006 6:39PM

My MG Midget would fit in quite nicely.

I think I saw something like this a couple years ago... Still cool though. I wonder what other kinds of things people would think of to do with that if more people had one.

Notice that the sardonic comments we commonly find in Engadgets takes a careful route and avoids drawing any attention to the sick waste of the worlds resources these hideous vehicles encourage.
The writer must be American. I really hope the cost of petrol hits 150 dollars a barrel. If that's what it takes, so be it.

Thing is.... The car pictured apears to be a Mercedes SLK... a 2 seat convertible. Not a 2+2, a pure 2 seater.
So who gets to stay with the bug-a-bego when the SLK is taken for a spin?
If only they had a version that could carry an H2 or something, now THAT would be usefull.
Vences5 @ Aug 29th 2006 9:07PM
Oh yes, bash RV's, since they are the main consumers of oil these days.
Evan @ Aug 29th 2006 9:15PM
Got one Its not made in germany mine was made in japan it holds a suv not a clown car its made by Destiny Rv company It does have a very high price though $900.000 anyway Bye
Chris @ Aug 29th 2006 10:13PM
"It's a good thing that the world has an unlimited amount of oil, so John Q. Fuckass can drive his behemoth RV around."
It's an even better thing that the world has enough morons to make dumb comments. Actually, even the biggest class A RV's get about the same, or better, gas mileage as some SUV's (Looking your way Excursion and Hummer).

Which is what? 10mpg? whoa, blowing me away there.
even the worst 4x4s here in uk do 25mpg,, with most people on 40-50. join the
real world.
but that's still incredibly cool :D

I, for one, welcome the arrival of our RV overlords.

When are we going to stop allowing these 'tards from the UK and every other European country to post in these comments. Every single time a post comes up about cars or fuel consumption, they start talking doodoo and crying about how Americans waste too much oil and how things in the UK are so much better and blah blah blah.
If you 'tards have so many problems with the good ol' US of A, then stop coming to our AMERICAN-based blog site and post on some European blogs instead. I get sick of you snobby, uppity euro's always bashing Americans because its the in thing to do in this world.
Go back to your bloody tea and crumpets you wankers and leave us to our big SUV's, super-size meals and nukes.
Have a gr8 day :)
Michael May @ Aug 31st 2006 3:41PM
hahahaha
Thanks henry for your 'friendly american' welcome. Just some constructive criticism, note I wasn't posting that I hated everything about America or that I wished you all dead, just that you could drive smaller cars. Guess it's a touchy issue for some people...
bye now!
Henry Tavarez @ Aug 31st 2006 5:13PM
You'll have to forgive my mean and uncalled for outburst. I dont mean to sound sensitive about the issue at all. I'm actually not. I just read the post and got annoyed.
I hate that bashing America has become the "in thing" to do these days. It seems that everytime the subject of gasoline, terrorism or politics come up, the conversations usually take a turn towards this senseless American bashing. I know our country is wasteful and our government isnt the most truthful of governments, but that doesnt mean that all Americans follow in this line of thinking and I hate that we are generalized as such.
Usually, when i defend America, it is with a sense of civility and tact, but unfortunately, not today. Must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
I apologize once again for anything rude i may have said and for lowering myself to the level of those I disagree with.

p.s. - Also, here is a link to another post awhile back where discussion got heated up between Americans and Europeans over gas and other things.

WHY ARE THEY LETTING THE KID TOUCH THE CAR?!
ElectroGeek @ Sep 2nd 2006 11:08PM
That is a freaking awesome RV! If you can afford an RV like that then you can surely afford the fuel! That is a sweet setup to be able to drag your roadster along for the ride and not have to tow it behind you. Awesome!
