Maxian launching 30GB, TV-recording M800 PMP
Korean manufacturer Maxian looks to be set to drop a new PMP on parts of the world other than this one with its newly-unveiled M800, though an exact launch date has yet to be announced. Like Maxian's T600, this one boasts direct video recording from a TV or other source, with a 30GB hard drive for you to fill up and a 4.3-inch WQVGA screen for you to watch it all on. If you prefer your media pre-recorded, it also supports AVI, MPEG, ASF, WMV, DAT, and VOB formats -- a much more thorough selection than some recent PMPs we've seen. While it looks like we're out of luck on this one here in North America, it seems you'll be able to snag one in Korea, Europe, China, and Hong Kong in your choice of black or white for the equivalent of $415 US.

Jeebus that's hot. Mine.
My guess is: It weighs 300 pounds. Would rather wait for IPod to have the same functionality.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Seriously. An iPod with functionality? First of all, its only 17mm x ~5inches (probably). Probably weighs abou thte same as current ipods. Second, if you are waiting for an ipod with this you will be waiting a long time. iPods come out with one new feature a year, and its usually something uninteresting, like "OO, it plays video! nothing else can do that."
One of the reasons these dont come to America is because a majority of our population is too stupid to realize its 300x better than the iPod, even though its not made by Jobs.
(3G iPod owner.)
I don't know if this is known to the masses, but awesome people are named Sam.
That black one looks sexy.
Yeah your right Sam, its 300X better than any Ipod, but, Archos is 400X better that the Ipod! :P Go get an Archos AV500 100GB for about 500$ US, and you wait will be over!
Looks like a Sidekick 2.
Cool.
Hong Kong, Here I come! ;-)
The white reminds me a bit of the Nokia 7710.
Oooh, I really like the way it looks. I'd love to have one. One problem I'm having with my iPod, though, is the space. I thought I'd never use 60 gigs, but now it's just about full. Not that I'd be able to buy one of these things anyway, but wouldn't 30 run out kinda fast too, especially if the emphasis is on the video capabilities? I suppose your average user won't care about the video quality (thus the large file sizes) as much as me, but still... Either way, just another reason to go live somewhere else, where they get all the cool stuff.
Does it support subtitles? Limited by video format? Vobsub subs, or separate SRT/SUB/etc files?
And what resolution is WQVGA again? I'm crossing my fingers hoping it's 720x480 or higher...
