Tomorrow at
IFA in Berlin,
Commodore will show off its new personal media player, called the Gravel In Pocket (yeah, great name). The new personal media player sports a 2.8-inch screen,
WiFi support, and plays DivX, Xvid, WMV, MP3, WAV files. It's got 1GB (or optionally 2GB) of internal flash storage, but also has an
SD card slot. Commodore also announced its new site, CommodoreWorld, to provide content for the little Gravel, which will be available no later than November. We may have to erm, grovel, to get our hands on a Gravel sooner than that. [Warning: PDF link!]
Haha, they definitely need to sort out the apostrophes in that dummy shot :D
Uh, that's a GIP.

Actually sounds pretty snazzy... and I love the retro logo ;)
"they definitely need to sort out the apostrophes in that dummy shot"
I think you mean "apostrophe's".
Love this thing! Nice and simple. When will this little bugger be available? Any word on price?
Jeff, I really hope you are joking! :D
Hey is anyone else extremly put off by the thought of a Scream 23? Or a Rocky 34?
"Jeff, I really hope you are joking!"
I thought that was obvious.
"Hey is anyone else extremly put off by the thought of a Scream 23? Or a Rocky 34?"
I'm put off by the idea of Scream 1, 2, 3 and 4... and the inevitable 5+.
Commodore with a new product? What's next? A cell phone made by Tandy?
y'know none of these companies believe in 'progress', i mean this has been done (although a useless idea to start with) to death.
so why don't commodore just release a funky upgraded C64, we'd buy it- i think it'd be far more popular than this mess.
with the funky upgraded C64- tape deck and no CD-ROM (don't be silly). maybe it could come preloaded with all the games. but it MUST require some text input to get things going... and take 30mins to boot into said games. ah, good times.
Surprised no one else has commented on the typeface used for "FILM & VIDEO". Nice to see some sort of clever functional tie in to the good old days.
Joystick in the back is cute. Form factor seems cool when you see the guy hold it in his hand. BUT standard with 1gb of storage? Coming out in mid 2007? A year from now what will the capacity of its comepetors be? Maybe if its really cheap someone will buy it, but 1gb seems way low on the memory end of things to be storing movies. I take it were not talking about feature length movies? Am I missing something?
I want one!
I made inquiries into buying the name from Tulip.
These guys will have blown a fortune! You are buying a device to buy your music from one vendor.
This is like being a diabteic and buyign a $200 USD hypodermic needle to buy your insulin from one source. It is the opposite of an open standard.
It does show that Apple should have considered a control on the back to give more screen real estate.
As much as the press wants to cut down the Zune, Apple should have had a Zune size screen with this round of iPods.
A rebuilt Commodore could have been so much more than a fourth rate mp3 company.
The only way this product wins is if it comes in $15 more than the price of the memory. That won't happen. They didn't learn from the Circuit City divx fiasco.
They could sell it on the tv shopping channels, because stores will carry iPods.. the tried and true.
