The iRocker chair with built-in iPod dock
Furniture-maker Adonis has announced a pile of new "interactive sound chairs" designed for maximum body rockin' and minimal body movin'. Available in a range of models from $99 to $600, the iRocker chairs all feature genuine "made for iPod" docks and Alltek Vision speakers with a remote control so you don't have to get up to... er, wait a minute. That extra $500 will buy you a full five speakers, as opposed to just a pair on the low-end. For the iPod-less, the chair also includes a standard auxiliary input to connect another audio device, although you won't get the added convenience of charging your player while you recline (at least we assume it'll charge your iPod -- Adonis isn't so clear). In addition to the number of different models to suit your budget, the chairs are also available in a slew of different colors, including six varieties for the microfiber option and more neutral black, bone and saddle colors for the faux-leather models.

I find it annoying how these days you can throw an iPod dock into anything and it will sell. People can be so stupid. My Marketing professor yesterday used the iPod as an example of when a product worked merely because it was innovative. He said it was the first hard drive based portable music player that could hold all your music. BS it was. Apple outmarketed the shit of the other companies, and considering he is a Marketing professor, he should damn well know that.
"I find it annoying how these days you can throw an iPod dock into anything and it will sell."
Except the BMW 1 series.
wow you are angry. And while I kind of agree with you, your professor was right from the standpoint of the average consumer. Most non-tech consumers were not really aware of the whole hard-drive MP3 player before the iPod, at least to the degree of seeing what it could mean to them. They may have heard of one of the other players, but it probably never crossed their mind that they might have a use for it.
That is until the iPod made things so user friendly, and people like me (more tech oriented, and more than likely, a strong Apple user) brought it everywhere, showing their friends at parties, or on ski trips, and people were really amazed when they got their hands on it, and saw how easy it was to use. Then the ad campaigns kicked in, and the thing took off.
Before that, they couldn't give a sh*t what a Rio was.
Nice. But it's not like we didn't see it coming. Make something more creative, PEOPLE!
Its creative in its simpilicity. The ipod took off because even the tech retarded can use it with little to no learning curve. They got it right at the right time.
I for one welcome our seat-based, iPod-charging, comfort-as-slavery-approach overlords.
whats an ipod?
It has nothing to do with ease of use of the actual player. The first Rio mp3 player was as easy to use as a CD player. iTunes is what made the iPod win. Of course it doesn't hurt that the iPod is as trendy as myspace and overvalued as a pair of air jordans.
Rio made the only gapless playback, lossless format playing HDD portable mp3 player I know of. They get muscled out of the market by Apple and Creative, who have yet to make a player with any such specs. Sad story.
well, if you guys do wanna buy this thing, they have it at costco.com. I am not sure if they have it at the actual Costco warehouses, but I saw it on their website while browsing for "hot offers"

Too bad these chairs are so ugly !
That is pretty cool! Here is my take on iPOD accessories: http://myipodsforfree.blogspot.com/2006/08/ipod-and-all-of-great-accessories.html
I happen to like the chairs, and you cant get much more creative than iPods. However, I would much rather listen to my iPod at the gym while exercising, than sitting in any chair. God knows, how fat America is getting!

I happen to like the chairs. But I would rather listen to my iPod at the gym while working out than sitting on any chair. Music gets me going and I want to do stuff. I just cant sit down.

The line in is TERRIBLE. I was reallly enjoying the chair with my laptop plugged in and turned all the way up and then Sarah McLachlin started playing and it kept cutting out in and out, same thing happens when playing a video game. I plugged in external speaker to the head phone jack and it works fine. Only buy this if you are going to plug in a ipod that can sit in the cradel (other then the shuffle). I had some phillips speakers that used a digital amp, that did the same thing but not for as long 2-3 seconds for the amp to turn off and on again when it doesn't detect loud enough sound from the analog in is TERRIBLE. Makes soft jazz, classical or anything soothing extremely choppy if it plays at all.
Wow where do I start? I love listening to music so for christmas my mom bought me this chair, first of all you have to plug it in with a bunch of these cords. You'd think these days that they could make it wireless. Then I put my ipod in and the speakers where AWFUL they were like $10 speakers or less and by the time you hit the 1/4 high volume it was total crap. Sometimes it would skip parts in the song as well. Total I used it for about an hour and the speakers just became too horrible and fuzzy the music hardly worked. of course the warrenty wouldn't work. So after all that I just started using the chair as a normal chair but the one day I went to lower the back of the chair and now it doesn't click back so the backrest has to be propped up by my wall. Very unsatisfied if I were you I wouldn't think twice about ordering this. Now I just set a cat mat there and let my cat use this chair as his bed.
I bought this chair and was pretty excited about it cause it plays ipod and the style of chair was perfect for my room. But when I got it the quality of sound was horrible and the speakers blew within a couple days of light use. The chair itself was uncomfortable with a slab of wood you could feel painfully digging into your ass. Soon after I realize that the place you sit on was broken and sinks down really far. I am not overweight to break the chair and the speakers were crap to begin with and they blew quickly after only listening to it a few times. I was horribly dissapointed in this product and the fact that the company would not refund my money. So it still sits in my room useless. If you are interested in buying this chair just go to Ikea buy a decent chair and get an ihome clock/music player and you'll be way more satisfied
