Apple rumor mongering is at a fevered pitch with Apple's media event now just days away. Venerable rumor site Think Secret is citing sources calling for that
23-inch, Core 2 Duo iMac we heard about to drop along side
2nd generation iPod nanos. The new nanos, originally expected by TS in August, will be shoved out the door sporting new, multi-colored metalic cases presumably along the line of the now
defunct iPod mini. But that's not enough for you is it fanboy? So TS is also calling for the launch of the highly anticipated
iTunes Movie Store as well as capacity upgrades for the 5G iPod to store the new flix. No surprise on the bump in disk what with Toshiba already announcing their
40 and
80GB disks and all. Sorry folks, but that
touch-screen video iPod just ain't gonna happen next week, according to TS that is.

sfuller @ Sep 4th 2006 8:43AM
I hope they drop a decent video card to drive that 23". How about an X1900XT? Please?
Joe Smith @ Sep 4th 2006 8:44AM
yeah, sfuller, that's what i'd like too. and an actual conroe proc.
Omar Abudayyeh @ Sep 4th 2006 8:50AM
What about merom? was there anything about that?
Omar Abudayyeh @ Sep 4th 2006 8:52AM
And i mean for macbook pros...
Xophonic @ Sep 4th 2006 9:10AM
Apple has me bored, all this years big innovations have been pretty predictable. I want to see some revolutonary goodness like the last few years have brought.
bingo bongo @ Sep 4th 2006 9:30AM
no more black nano? yikez. and what is expected max size for the new nano - 8gb?
alltough I like my shuffle a lot for holidays I would prefer more music to carry with me and my 1st gen. 5gb is just sooo tired of all that traveling ;) (still works like an ace though)

This whole 23" iMac this caught me by surprise. I was in PC World the other day (I live in Ireland), and I played with a 20" iMac, they're big!! When I heard Apple was rumored to be producing a 23" iMac, frankly I was surprised. Maybe it will be more of a TV than a compuer, we'll hae to wait and see. Apple TV 23" with front row 2.0, and the all new Apple remote 2.0 Who knows? You know what will happen if it is a TV, people will say I want a bigger one, and Apple will give then a 26" and a 32".
Chris @ Sep 4th 2006 9:52AM
If you want revolutionary from Apple (Im an Apple fan too) then wait until the tablet/touch screen ibook appears in late 2020.......sorry its a joke but I really do wish that Apple released a tablet based ibook....almost makes me want to go out and buy an x86 laptop from gateway
bprince @ Sep 4th 2006 10:02AM
...and now i can get that mbp ive been waiting for along with a free nano 2G. saweet.
Revels @ Sep 4th 2006 10:07AM
I use my 20" iMac as a TV at the moment with the Elgato EyeTV DTT stick, and it's great. What makes it so great is the Front Row and tvtv.com EPG integration. It works just as it you'd expect TV in an Apple should. Really good product *****
23" iMacs = native HD editing. So tempted to upgrade my 'old' Rev A. G5...
Adam @ Sep 6th 2006 2:48AM
It could also be something to do with Jaguar and Bootcamp beta as that is due to expire at the end of September from what i can remember
Rick @ Sep 4th 2006 10:58AM
Are we really trusting TS?
Mr.Kaiser @ Sep 4th 2006 11:14AM
MBP where are you
ChillyWilly @ Sep 4th 2006 1:05PM
New nanos and maybe an iMac Core 2 Duo rev are what I think will happen. Anything else is a wash, IMO.
Although I was wrong last year when the 5G iPods came out.
idude135 @ Sep 4th 2006 12:48PM
"The new iPod will not be the long-awaited touch-screen iPod, which is currently tracking for an early 2007 release."
Wait a minute, is Apple considering a half-baked transitional device, just to compete with the Zune? The video store shouldn't be announced until Apple has a full-screen iPod out the gates, and that means an "updated 5G iPod" will not cut it. Apple must be kidding me.
I only see the new Nanos and iMac being released on Sept. 12. That is of course, unless they can ship the ever-expected new iPod with touchscreen UI. Otherwise, another set of blanks, like the iPod Hi-Fi announcement...

I take everything Thick Secret reports with a serious grain of salt. They've been completely unreliable lately (reporting iTunes movie rental at WWDC, and a "substantially different" Mac Pro case). It seems that other rumor sites, like AppleInsider, are more accurate than TS has been. While I don't doubt that one of TS's rumors will pan out, if you release enough rumors, you're bound to get one right eventually!
kingcutter @ Sep 5th 2006 12:53PM
maybe i wont be holding out for the merom macbook/pro's after all :(
gl0tch @ Sep 4th 2006 2:15PM
A million monkeys theory on TS, I hear ya! But what about the MacBook Pro update was AI saying? Still going to happen or what?!?!
Dan @ Sep 4th 2006 2:55PM
PLEASE PLEASE Apple! Update teh MacBook Pro on the 12th. I couldn't care less about any of the other stuff right now. If they wait until January.... they better skip Merom and go straight for an early release oh Penryn or something crazy.
zedwards @ Sep 4th 2006 3:41PM
sorry folks, think secret isn't very reliable but the masses are bored to tears, so go ahead...believe the 23" iMac rumors.
Alain @ Sep 4th 2006 4:49PM
I think the Shuffle needs to be refreshed maybe with an oled display and some more capacity.
Charles Miller @ Sep 4th 2006 5:48PM
It looks like Think Secret are reposting every current 'hot' rumour in the hope that one of them pans out. Which means they really have no idea what's being announced.
Adrian B @ Sep 4th 2006 5:39PM
AppleInsider has some juicy info, if it's true it'd be very nice...
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2016
"As someone at the forefront of the motion picture industry, he knows films are designed for the big screen and later adapted for the home living-room theater.
For these reasons, Jobs many months ago commissioned an elite group of Apple engineers to get the ball rolling on an intuitive hardware solution that would more closely tie the company's digital media strategy to the living-room. And so AppleInsider has been told, Apple has been quietly developing a video streaming device that will interface with an updated version of its iTunes jukebox software.
It's arguably been one of the most closely guarded secrets at Apple since the evolution of the first iPod digital music player, which forever altered the landscape of the music industry when it was introduced in October of 2001. Only a select bunch inside Cupertino have heard of the latest device and even fewer have seen it. Therefore, further details are few and far between."
MacJazz1983 @ Sep 5th 2006 6:25PM
I predict that Apple . . .
1. Will drop the iPod Shuffle Line altogether.
2. Will unveil 2 New Services:
a) iMovie Store part of iMovie Suite (or Mac Only) first to test whether it will work or not. all iMovies will recieve a similar permanent pricing Scheme to what iTunes does now, or in other iMovie will have a similar change/beginning as to iTunes.
b) Apple Phone Network: Will work with upcoming iPohones that replace all iPod nanos.
3. as mentioned before will slighlty alter iPod nano line to become iPhones (may drop the "nano") and, Add an Attachment for previous iPods to give them Phone capabilities for $49.95--$59.99.
4. Only the iMac and MacBook Pro Lines will get updated.
a. iMac 17" will be Dropped or be education only. iMac 20" Core 2 Duo @ 2.0 Ghz and Core 2 Duo @ 2.16 Ghz. iMac 23" @ 2.16 and, 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo respectivley.
b. All MacBook Pros will recieve the Xeon Processors in Mac pro @ 3 Ghz repsectively. 15' will get FireWire 800.
5. Concerning iPod 6G I see Widescreen Displays, phone and Game capabilities. with the Click wheel on the left or right Side like a PSP.
and, the addition of more/better games, possibly a partnership with Nintendo. (iPod D.S. anyone?)
other possible names for the Device:
iGame
iGamePod
GamePod
iCell
Won't flip over like a sidekick or Nin.DS but will need or maybe even will still be able to use all previously made iPod Cases. Will of course come with a Case of it's Own.
6. Oh, One More thing. A New Product Called the MacTab. Will Come out in White (maybe Black... BIG Maybe!)Will be similar in Specs to a MacBook now, with 2.16 Core Duo or, Core 2 Duo 2 Duo Processor.
Of Course My name is John not Steve, and i'm not God either, so what do I know?
