We think at some point, you come to realize that you have enough timekeepers in your life. Your
cell phone, your
computer, your
microwave -- perhaps even your
set of tubes all have clocks. Apparently
Oregon Scientific didn't get the memo, because it's just released the DP100, the Daylight Projection Clock with Indoor Temperature Display, a
clock that that illuminates your wall with the time, temperature and date. The online catalog listing ($90) says that the projection intensifies and de-intensifies as needed given other ambient light. The same listing goes on to say that the clock is a "perfect complement for modern decor" -- so given Engadget's post-modern cyberoffices, we won't be getting one of these anytime soon.

Yes, but when I wake up, I hate turning my head to look at the clock on the wall. It's so much easier to not have to move to tell the time (I can just open my eyes and see the time on the ceiling). They should also make "vertical TV projectors", where you project movies onto the ceiling for watching in bed.

Something like this would be more useful if you had more options of what is displayed. Maybe if you could program your own text into it, or even hook it up online to display headline news or something....maybe even make it Bluetooth capable? Probably would have better business uses than home uses, but again there are better gadgets out there...this thing is kinda gimmicky.

Geez, engadget has such an anti-Oregon Scientific bias! I'm so sick of it!

.. Just for that, you're not my friend anymore, Tom.

The question would be how long befoe they show up cheap on ebay and get hacked into new and exciting products. Like a usb display so you can lie in bed and use your wireless keyboard while looking at the ceiling.

to make one useable in most bedrooms in daylight, they need to make one with frikkin lasers.
What? You get out of bed with the sunrise, bright eyed and bushytailed? What are you doing reading the internets for?

What I'd like to have confirmed is whether or not this is self setting via a built-in radio tuned to WWV. It is on the list on their page of self setting clocks, but the list of features doesn't mention it and the PDF manual doesn't mention it. (Unless I missed it).
For that price, it better be self setting...

I have a few Oregon Scientific products that I purchased off of the discount table and I have to say that it is all very well made high quality stuff.
