LG's "Black Sapphire" MG810 Chocolate flip phone is real!
We hope you're not preparing for this to be a specced out monster of a cellphone, but for those longing for a Chocolate flip phone that may be a little (ok, a lot) too reminiscent of the KRZR, look no further than the Black Sapphire MG810 (aka VX8600, and U830). It'll apparently have a 1.3 megapixel camera, 176 x 220 internal display (and 96x 96 external), media player that supports MP3 and AAC, Bluetooth, FM radio, 128MB of flash memory, and GRPS. Still, she's ah so beautiful. According to our Brazilian pal who sent this in, they snuck it right out underneath our ever lovin' noses and apparently put it on sale in South America for 999 Brazil Reais (or about $465 US). Steep, for a phone that doesn't appear to have EDGE or expandable media, but you're not paying for features here, remember?

I have the chocolate and there is no FM radio, im a little mad about that. But im pretty sure this thing is going to have MicroSD capabilities. So expandable it will be. When it boils down to it, would i give back my chocolate for the new DARK chocolate, i still like the Slider, let Motorola have the "thin flips" LG's got the right idea with the original Chocolate.
Shredsled87 @ Sep 7th 2006 2:52AM
It looks cool. Too bad it doesn't have EDGE or expandable memory.

The LG chocolate flip has been out in Asia for the longest time now. The pictures that are floating around the web are most likely of that version.
In asia, LG is marketing heavily three versions of its Chocolate "Black Label" series. A black chocolate flip, a black chocolate slider, and a black chocolate candybar phone.
There is also a white version of the slider, which looks just like the black one but in white, with the keys checkerboard with white and silver.

MobileBurn has it as the KG810 in Asia.
Here's a link to the KG810 Chocolate flip and the KG320 Chocolate candybar from an August 14 article:

this has been out in the UK for over 2 weeks now from Phones2You. It felt very solid, however there is no improvement to the screen or camera compared to the Chocolate.
The phone is actually pretty slim feeling as well.

Umm, looks almost exactly like the Samsung a900. A lot more than it looks like any KRZR. Chocolate doo-doo.

The silver really turns me off. If it were all black, that would be a differnet story. I just don't get this black with silver craze manufacturers are going though.
At least Samsung seems to be on track somewhat and some of those new Sony phones.

well, in the airport in sao paulo (brasil) theyve had adds for it for at least 2 months... since LG sponsors the airport and all that... also there it is called the black safira
Felipe Cepriano @ Sep 7th 2006 7:13PM
Here in Brazil the phones are REALLY expansive... A Moto v3 is arround R$800 (U$$350/400)
Helcio @ Sep 7th 2006 8:30PM
No, the V3 isn't costing R$800, it's around R$600 (US$ 280). And the MG810, i've already been with one, not big deal, i prefer my symbian, though many people are complaining about the battery life of the MG810
Felipe Cepriano @ Sep 8th 2006 6:34AM
Helcio, i was talking about a unlocked one...
jamin @ Sep 9th 2006 7:42PM
So is the battery life a big problem on the MG810? For those of you who have it do you like it a lot? I'm debating on whether to wait it out for this phone or just go ahead and get a chocolate...any suggestions?
Jody @ Sep 8th 2006 8:18PM
hmm, I just got a Samsung A900 about a week ago.
This phone looks nearly EXACTLY like it (a few differences here and there).
The screen is larger, and has a better resolution, and it in fact looks more slick and stylish. ('google "A900" for photos')

I just got this yesterday, and yes it does in fact have microSD expansion. It came with a 1 GB card, a converter card and a USB card reader. It's also the sexiest phone I've seen, anything by Samsung and Moto can't touch it. Just trying to figure out if I can upload homebrew ringtones using the card instead of posting them to a website and then downloading them to the phone. Free is much better than 10 cents per page.

Hey, I just got this phone a while ago and can someone please let me know if there is any way to use my mp3s as ringtones or if there is a good site that has free ringtones for this phone. Thanks alot.
