Japan often comes out with sweet stuff (we're looking at you,
moon-colonizing robots), and this latest
MP3 player with a built-in speaker carries that novelty torch. While we don't have much to go on besides Third Wave's site and a few scattered hits across the web, we are nevertheless intrigued. The nameless player (we don't read Japanese, remember --
these guys do, though) comes with a little 6W woofer and a pair of 3W tweeters (collectively called the "Speaker 8030"), all inside a little cylindrical case that measures 6.7 inches tall and is 4 inches across. It'll hold a half gig's worth of songs, and the company will even throw in a remote for about $45 (¥5,280) and is available starting September 8. Now instead of lugging around that boombox on your shoulder, you probably could loop this onto your sunglasses -- yeah, that'd be totally sweet.

Err 6.7 inches tall and 4 inches across is tiny? You think you can loop that onto your sunglasses. You better have an absolutely huge nose to support that one!!!
"8030" interestingly is the model no. of a very high end studio monitor (speaker) and sadly being used for amateur products.

Well, I didn't try reading the whole thing, but the title of the thing is "Stylish Speaker Attachment." Just thought I'd flex my limited Japanese skills and help. Not that I really helped all that much, but whatever.
Isn't the name "MP3 Player with SPEEKER '8030'"?
Ummm, but yeah, too big to hang from your glasses, or mine for that matter.
Oh, and the product title is "MP3 Player with Speaker" so it's probably another one of those nameless, generic Japanese electronics products. Creative name, huh. Shame on you, Japanese electronics companies. Products need names.
(Well, as long as you don't name it something like "Wii," in which case your product would probably be better off with a serial number name like "CTRX452." Or "MP3 Player with Speaker.")
You want me to loop something bigger than an iPod onto my sunglasses?
WTF???
Looks like it was inspired by a trashcan
I don't understand how people continue to find this sort of gear useful. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. A half gig's worth of music? That's not even an entire MP3 CD worth! At 6" across, I could build this thing out of fiberglass in a few hours. Just slap a 5.25" 2-Way Lightning Audio speaker in the top, mount a $150 Sony CD player that has a remote, supports MP3 CD-R's, and mount it vertically into the side with a 5AMP DC Power supply (only running 1/4 channels) and wallah! You can now hold 700MB of MP3's and have another external channel and auxillary inputs! Oooh Ahh...
More like loop this around your neck like a St. Bernard's Whiskey keg.
The thing does not have any internal memory. The page says you can use it with USB thumb drives, flash disks with USB adapters, or an external HD. 512mb refers to the limit of which it can recognize, any USB flash device up to 512mb can be used (does not specify anything on the HD tho).
Baseem, it's "Voila!" not "Wallah!". lol
It needs a foot pedal to open the top (see Unregistered & Ignorant)
