ULTIMATE Lego Chaingun -- not your parents' rubberband gun
Heck yes. We've been trying to utilize our Lego collection for the production of projectile apparatuses ever since the Pirate sets stopped coming with those flickable cannons. Now it seems our sad attempts have been eternally showed up by Sebastian's ULTIMATE Lego Chaingun, which has 8 barrels, a 64 shot capacity, and an eleven rounds per second firing rate. The rubberband chaingun took over a month to build, and is powered by an honest-to-goodness Lego motor. Sebastian has all sorts of ideas how to mod up his gun even more, including an ammo counter or even faster firing rate, but whatever he manages to do it's clear all we're going to be bringing to our next rubberband fight is a white flag. Keep reading for some hot embedded YouTube action of this thing blasting away.

scot: I hardly think the ability to inflict pain on little brats and small animals at 11 shots a second is pointless, but then that's just me.
Neo Senku @ Sep 11th 2006 4:40PM
oh my god that is sweet
ric @ Sep 11th 2006 4:46PM
just add the metal springs from standard clothes pins to the ends of those elastics for some serious fun!
Adreneline @ Sep 11th 2006 4:58PM
Next he should make a highy speed paper wasp gun!

Just the simple fact that somebody at Engadget remembers when the Lego shooting cannons were banned has just made me that much more of a loyal reader. On a related note, if they ever made more "Classic Space" sets I'd buy them up in a heartbeat.

The Half Life 3 Engine at work again!

What's the range on this sucker?
Euan @ Sep 11th 2006 5:38PM
He's firing Lego at a glass toped table. Ouch.
I was 10 when the pirate Lego came out. I got so much of that stuff at Christmas. I still have some of the original Space Lego about somewhere too. I loved that stuff, everything wasn't made of specially molded parts as it seems to be now.
teo @ Sep 11th 2006 5:47PM
Let's see. 11 rounds at 64 shot capacity. So you have to reload every 5.8 seconds?
ElectroGeek @ Sep 11th 2006 5:52PM
I'm going to track down the plans and build it. Next time my kids shoot a rubberband at me I'll pull a Scarface on them and whip out the killer lego rubberband cannon. Photos of my kids terrified faces to follow...

I agree Euan! I love the space Legos. Seems like eveything is too pre-molded now. I don't think I ever made the model that that was on the box. Well, maybe just once.
welshys @ Sep 11th 2006 6:21PM
There rubber bands hes firing Euan. Not LEGO, I hope

I feel kind of like a loser knowing that the song in the video is the Playstation song by Eiffel 65 (I own the CD and listen to it regularly). As ill-qualified as the Playstation 1 was to be subject for a techno song, they made it work very well. Oh well, cheers to the Lego gun, most impressive!
Jamie Drake @ Sep 11th 2006 10:29PM
mmmm....space lego.....
Aaron @ Sep 11th 2006 10:58PM
Human beings are such amazing creatures... And this is what they do with their time. It's funny and depressing all at once.
That thing is still awesome though.
Cam @ Sep 11th 2006 10:58PM

Awww... and to think that all I could ever get was a single-shot K'Nex pistol. Oh, and amen to all those wanting some more space lego. I still have some pieces to my Space Train set here and there, that thing was awesome.
