Delkin takes burning on the go with DVD BurnAway
In a long overdue update to its original BurnAway device, Delkin is finally launching the new model to embrace the not-exactly-fresh technology known as DVD. While it doesn't get much of a facelift (externally or otherwise), this portable burner rocks a rechargeable battery, CD-R / RW and DVD±R / RW compatibility, music playback, and instant slideshow support via the built-in S-Video / composite outputs. The biggest boons here, however, are the twin flash memory slots -- supporting CompactFlash (I and II), MicroDrive, SD, MMC, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, MS Pro, and xD (with adapter, naturally) -- that bypass the computer entirely to allow direct card-to-CD / DVD burning. Of course, this could be utilized as a plain ole external burner for your PC, but where's the fun in that? While battery life is (frighteningly) not mentioned, we assume it stocks enough juice to burn at least a couple discs while road trippin', and the DVD BurnAway can be picked up anytime before your next pre-planned journey for $369.99.[Via MobileWhack]

For $369 I could buy a bunch of CF Cards and not worry about this thing not copying my data properly -- afterall, how can you check it without a computer?

cool

How can Delkin exist when it sounds just like Belkin, and they make peripheral products?

I often want to burn DVDs while on the bus...

Um, this isn't new. I've owned a Delkin DVD Burnaway (yes, this EXACT one) since late March of 2005...not sure how this made it into your info stream so late. It works great, by the way, and the DVD burner is removable and fits into the side of common laptops (such as some Toshiba models) as a bonus. Plays movies well, too (comes with a case and a remote).

Geez for $369 you could get a Compaq laptop already! (HP just had them on sale last week for $299 with $49 shipping.)

Lame. At this point, it should have DVD+/-R DL capability, especially for this price.

Isn't this the same stuff that MicroSolutions sells under their RoadStor line? I have their DVD reader with CDRW version, which is pretty cool, but the DVD playback out to the TV (as a standalone unit) sucks - very jumpy with audio decoding problems on all titles I have tried. Hopefully this DVD burning version fixes it, but it is way too expensive anyway.

If only the old Sony MPD-AP20U supported burning DVDs. It was Li-Ion battery operated, supported music playback from DVD, burned CDs & CD-RWs, supported flash formats (Memory Stick, MS Pro, MSP Duo, etc), and worked as an external USB2.0 drive all while maintaining the aesthetics of high-end Sony hardware... It looked like a Discman with XBR910/960 styling. It even had a cradle/battery pack for even more juice than the Li-Ion alone provides (30hrs MP3 playback... useful for those with a 2GB MSPD and a dual-layer DVD full of MP3s).

I have used the Delkin Burnaway to burn photos from flash cards, and have encountered an occasionally recurring problem. When making multiple burns to a DVD while on a photo shoot - I've returned to view the DVD only to find that just one of teh - say 5 -6 burnings is viewable. The rest of the files are "Hidden" and cannot be accessed. They are clearly burned onto the disk, but are unretrievable. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to access these hidden files on the DVD? I've lost many good photos with this Burnaway problem.

The Burn away was a GREAT tool when shooting photos on safari. no computer needed and could recharge on cigarette lighter. I could reuse several compact flash cards and keep shooting. I would like to know what experiences anyone has had with recording audio cd's on it from compact flash?
