Does anyone realize how simple it is for a retailer to make a mistake on a web site? Amazon UK has some inside information that no one else does and they let it slip? This is a complete non-story.
Guys, it was a joke. Engadget realizes it's a typo, they're not "feeding the rumor mill" or trying to cause mass hysteria in fanboys the world over. They're pointing out something that is pretty dang funny.
Engadget serves as a tech-oriented entertainment source... Have you not been entertained? Is this not why you are here?
If you click "buy this item from another seller," it says, "Set the price you're willing to pay for this used item: Amazon.co.uk price: 499.99." That's wayyyy over $129.00. If anyone actually pays that much for a Zune, I think I will cry.
Yeah, this is just a theory, but I am pretty sure the folks at good ol' Engadget saw it, thought their dear readers would get a good laugh, and posted it. The text right below the picture should have been a pretty good indication that it was not real, so I am perplexed as to why anybody took it seriously.
I don't know what it is with the Stephens and Johns from Buffalo of this world, but if you wan't to brand it fake and be obviously smug about it, you better check you're actually right beforehand.
Just click on the picture, and it takes you directly to amazon.co.uk. Check it out and only then draw your conclusions.
I suspect this a trick and done on purpose in order to see how many maniac bloggers will report it for no valid reason other than having nothing better to do, and to get people to visit their blog. This does not rise to the level of even a non-story.
I really don't understand all the engadget-haters that post angry comments every time engadget posts a story about something that isn't "news". Stop taking life so seriously... All you need is love, man.
"Delivery Restrictions: This item can only be delivered within the UK"
Hmmmm, have been pondering something for some while, because I noticed US Zunes only shipped to US. Now, UK Zunes only shipped in UK......Might, MIGHT there just be some kind of "zone protection" on this device? Like the DVD zones? It WOULD make sense, then they would have another way of controlling content distribution....since the Zune is incompatible with PFS.......and vice versa.

Also, this is a bit disturbing:
Item model number: AP2
Huh?
Taylor @ Sep 22nd 2006 1:52PM
yeah, that is strange....
apple freak @ Sep 22nd 2006 1:04PM
just for the record, the model number is not even close to what apple uses for their products...
Alex Padilla @ Sep 22nd 2006 11:16AM
While this is obviously a typo of some sort, it's rather comical to see. If only it was true, I'd be inclined to purchase it...
pyro @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:16PM
Alex Padilla, so you would only but it if it had an apple logo on it, even if it was the same exact product? I hate ignorant fanboys.
Wonderboy @ Sep 22nd 2006 11:17AM
I love people jumping to conclusions on this...

Something is very fishy about that listing.

Why's everyone up in arms these days? Can't a po' man get a break?
Brendan @ Sep 22nd 2006 11:58AM
it's good for a laugh. which is why it was posted. take it easy people.
as an aside, if you search "zune" on Amazon.com, the first 5 results are Toshiba players. (yes, yes, I know who's making the zune.)

The Zune totally makes sense now. It's so crappy so that the iPod looks better (and apparently cheaper) by comparison.
Good one!
