Samsung's SGH-i607 in the Cingular wild
Looks like that developer site's leak of the Samsung SGH-i607 coming to Cingular was spot-on. The pics above plastered in Howard Forums are purported to be the latest Q-killer from Samsung. No front-facing camera like we we've seen elsewhere but that Cingular branding is unmistakable. Just to run it down again for ya, this WinMo Smartphone is expected to bring quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE / HSDPA data, Bluetooth, MicroSD expansion, and a side mounted scroll-wheel said to be "on-par, or better than those on RIM devices." We'll see soon enough if the Q3 launch date is accurate. Another picture 'round back after the break.

Samsung doesn't do much to dispell the stereotype of the Japanese being great copiers yet poor designers of original works. Samsung apparently has great technical resources and ability, but their products don't impress when they look pretty much like near copies of Motorola or Apple products. Where's the innovation?
uhm... Samsung's a Korean company...
a) Apple doesn't manufacture cell phones or PDAs (at least not anymore). The Sony VAIO was a strong influence in the design of Apple's laptop computers.
b) Stick your head out the window and look at the incredible innovations in phones in both Korea and Japan. Designs you'd cream in your pants over, full-blown digital camera/phone combinations, colors that run the gamut, sliding, twisting, WIBRO, live TV, etc etc etc!
c) Since most regulations and procedural crap in the states is rather asinine and consumers are also conservative when it comes to adopting the latest and greatest, companies will understandably be more reluctant to tack this way and that when it comes to design. That's why we get things last.
Holy hell that thing is ugly.
Nothing about this on Cingular's site yet, but they FINALLY got around to releasing the Sony Ericsson W3001 walkman phone for $20 with all the rebates.
no wifi?
Mike, why would Samsung need to dispell the stereotype of the Japanese when it is a Korean company? Perhaps the companies fromt the United States should dispell the stereotypes of Malaysian companies as well.
Thanks Rob. My mistake.
Is that tiny screen even remotely usable? It looks very uncomfortable.
That is possibly the ugliest phone ever created.
Whats so ulgy about it. I like it. If it comes out before the GSM Q it will sell.
dude, someone beat on that with a big fat ugly stick. what's so ugly about it? thinkpad colors, chunky and poorly laid out buttons, the back has 80's style in a non-cool/retro way... it looks like a VERY early beta prototype, not something already in carrier review.
I think it has a cool features...(-:

It doesnt matter.... NOTHING is messing with the NOKIA E61/62
how is this handset diffrent from the i320?
I'm going to go out on a limb here, but this image seems faked. I'm not questioning the existence of the phone, or that it is coming to Cingular, but it would seem a bit strange to have a phone made for the American market have an included pound-sterling shortcut (h key). Just saying...
