Photokina is about to get started and with it, a couple of new shooters from Fujifilm. The FinePix S5 Pro DSLR pictured above is their followup to the
S3 Pro and incorporates the same 12.3 megapixel Super CCD SR Pro sensor only now featuring Fujifilm's new RP (Real Photo) Processor Pro. So check it wedding photographers 'cause Fujifilm claims the new S5 provides an ever greater dynamic range with smoother tonality from highlight to shadow said to rival that of 35mm film. Improvements are also announced in the aufo-focus, i-TTL flash, metering, battery-life, DR control, and ISO 3200 sensitivity. We'll have to wait and see since the S5 Pro won't be out until February 2007. Also announced is the 6.3 megpaixel FinePix F31fd which is just the
F30 with a bit of a cosmetic lift to pack-in their
hardware-based face recognitation technology we've seen before. Look for the F31fd to drop (in the UK anyway) starting late November. Expect pricing on both closer to their respective launch dates. Pics of the F31fd after the break.

This is so stupid. That picture of the so called S5 is just a doctored up Nikon D200.

Obviously, you are a new "Fuji watcher". It isn't a doctored up photo- I think the decent people at Engadget have a tad more integrity...
IT IS A D200 BODY!!! Have a look at the Fuji Pro D-SLR which also uses a Nikon D2X body. They obviously have actually used the exact same magnesium-alloy body which Nikon does, buying it from Nikon or the same body manufacturing firm that Nikon does. Fuji has a close working relationship with Nikon, and Nikon likes Fuji- the Fuji cameras use Nikon lenses. The only thing different on the body is the paint.

EXACTLY!!! and also is using Nikon lenses...
pyrojunky @ Sep 25th 2006 9:21AM
what the fuck... its the exact same body as the D200...

That's how Fuji rolls with their DSLRs.

am I the only one that really dislikes the jaggies on these scaled images? Anyhoo, nice new DSLRs. Nice.
tekdroid @ Sep 25th 2006 12:38PM
hmm, jaggies only occuring on firefox/seamonkey/k-meleon (all gecko-based browsers). Not Opera. I guess these browsers can't fit the image properly in the space in they render, so end up downsizing, causing jaggies. Sorry for the off-topicness.

Fuji uses their own CCD while Nikon uses Sony CCD.
Wildness @ Sep 25th 2006 9:49PM
The Fuji SLRs have always been built on Nikon bodies using Nikon lenses - and the S5 is obviously using the D200 body.

Glad to see they went away from the old Kodak-like back that was on the S3. But I did my photo growing up on Nikon so I'm not a Canon fan but despite the great images my S3 takes I would still rather shoot with any Canon rather than another Fuji.
