Why can't they keep earphones the way they are. Just make 2 'black boxes': 1 to strap to your belt or your collar or your shirt pocket. The other at the sound source (ipod or otherwise). That way you can use whatever heaphones you want plugged into the 1st box and whatever audio source plugged into the 2nd box. Bonus future customer points for upgrading to next version headphones...
