Averatec 6600 does Core 2 Duo
Look, not every Core 2 Duo lappy is going to have full-on 17-inch gaming prowess, sometimes they've gotsa have 15.4-inch screens with 1280 x 800 resolutions and one of those 128MB ATI Radeon X1400 graphics cards. And that's OK. Really, Averatec, your new 6600 unit might not have the freshest of designs, but it looks plenty thin, and we like how you've packed in a 2GHz T7200 Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 100GB SATA HDD. It'd be nice to know a price or release date, but we're not pushy, we're sure you'll do it up on the cheap. You do your thing, Averatec, we're behind you all the way.

is it me, or are engadget posts getting increasingly more cryptic every day?
I love my Averatec laptop. It's lightweight and small, and it was cheap. I really only use it for Chatting and surfing the web, but If I need to edit a few photos, it runs Photoshop CS2 fine. I highly reccommend it.
My one complain about my Averatec laptop is it's battery ilfe. The battery it comes with dies so fast.
Generally, a subpar laptop. I bought this computer because I wanted a laptop that was reasonably priced and could handle relatively new games. Prior to this one, I had a lenovo 3000 C100, a far superior machine.
While it has a dedicated card, many games work at first but then bug out because of the terrible ati drivers. This machine can't even handle Prince of Persia Sands of Time. Additionally, it is constantly hot. How hard is it to get a decent heatsink/fan? Also, the memory is not upgradable. Why on Earth would you make a computer with a Vista OS, and only support a maximum of 1gig?
There are a couple of good features, though. The screen is pretty nice. The speakers are pretty good. And one feature that's been lacking in my previous laptops is included; the ability to disable the trackpad. Man, I hate track pads. I mostly use laptops because I often move and don't want to haul a comp and monitor when I do, and primarily use laptops as desktop replacements. I hate typing, accidentally bumping the trackpad with my thumb and deleting half of what I typed. On this system, there is a button in front of the trackpad to turn it off.
Another nice thing that was on my first averatec, was the ability to turn off the screen. I often keep my computer on when I sleep in order to download torrents. Granted you can set the screen to turn off automatically in power options, but turning it off instantaneously was always a nice feature.
Anyways, this particular model gets a 4/10 from me(+1 for the trackpad disabling)
.
I have 2 gig installed without any issues. Ran vista ultimate with adobe suite. Didn't like so went back to windows media center 2005. Also, Heat comes from every laptop. If you setup the laoptop on flat surface you are fine. Personally with the new ati drivers this machine FLIES!
