Buffalo's BOMU-IL USB mouse has disco fever
If you've been tirelessly searching for a well-lit mouse to shake its tail across that EverGlide LED dance floor mouse pad, Buffalo is putting the funk right where you need it. The BOMU-IL series mice come in two ultra-ordinary colors (black and white), but when plugged into your computer's USB port, the light show begins. Each mouse sports a different seven color rotation for your own personal memorization, while both share an 800dpi optical sensor, retractable USB cable, right / left click buttons, a smooth scroll wheel, and a symmetrical design that caters to righties and southpaws alike. The perfect input device to queue up those Parliament playlists will be hitting stores in October for ¥3,320 ($29).

If the thing just rotates colours, that is absolutely lame.
If it however provides an API through which you can set an RGB value for the lights to take on, that's cool and opens up possibilities for user notifications in various colours (mouse turns blue when you have e-mail, mouse flashes red when you have an error, etc.), visualization plugins for music players, and so on.
From an electronics perspetive the latter should be super-easy to implement, but if the mouse is just a light show, lame.

Sadly, you cannot alter the seven light rotation in any way. It simply rolls around in a set pattern, thus it wouldn't exactly work for alerts...without a hack, that is!

When you say "will be hitting stores in October," do you mean US or Japanese stores? I'm in the market for a new mouse and this one looks awesome!
