While we were all distracted with HP's
recent acquisition of Voodoo PC, Misters Hewlett and Packard went and quietly released two new PCs sportin' that sexy
HD DVD that we love so much. The first is the HP Pavilion m7600n Series PC (pictured) running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, which packs an Intel
Viiv chipset with Merom chips -- or an Intel P965 Express chipset -- up to 4GB of RAM, up to 500GB of storage, that ever-so-lovely HD DVD drive, a TV tuner with PVR software, an FM tuner, optional second tuner, remote control, and of course standard wired and wireless networking. Its more practical counterpart, the Pavilion Desktop PC a1630 with HD DVD prefers the
AMD action, with a 2.2 GHz Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core, a nVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE video chipset, up to 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and a front-panel 9-in-1 memory card reader. Now, while we love these glossy spec sheets as much as the next guy, what we'd really love to see are some price tags and release dates to go with 'em. [Warning: PDF link]

yeah....but it's still a crappy HP
Oh and what do you use Dell? Sony sucks too and so does emachines. Idiot...why don't you say something useful instead of just spewing out senseless garbage. HP's computers are generally designed better than any other manufacturer except maybe Gateway. Except for how HP screws hard drives to the bottom of their computers in some cases.
Calm down bro - i was only half serious anyways. I got nothin against people buying HPs, or comps from any other manufacturer for that matter, but I just personally don't like 'em. I'd rather make one custom to my own desired specifications.
gateway owns emachines...
HP has realy good build quality.
That case looksbetter in person...its still not much to look at, but it does look decent.
is HP ever gonna build themselves a new case? such nice hardware in that shitty case...
... and the mouse looks like is from the last century too :)
I know Gateway owns emachines, but it doesn't make emachines suck any less. Just like Dell owns Alienware but Alienware is still good even though Dell sucks
Hey Cyrus, Merom is not the processor inside the case, its Allendale/Conroe, depending on config. Merom is the laptop Core 2 Duo, the desktop Core 2 Duo are Allendale and Conroe. Allendale is a bit lower end of Core 2 Duo because its Ghz is lower and has half its cache.
Anyways, im using that very computer right now (without the 4 gigs-i have 2 and without the HD DVD). It runs pretty well, no probs at all.
I agree with scott and Martin though, HP's case design is good, but looks old, outdated, and sort of ugly. It looks pretty good compared to some other company's.
If you get this pc, I recommend you buy a lower end version of it and buy and install everything else yourself. HP uses things that are not that good and feels cheap. But if HP is giving it away for $200, take it! :D
Prepare to be shocked at how little free expansion space is in this pc. They should really remove that Personal Media Drive, like anyone uses that. It wastes space and barely used.
HP cmon man don't they make bugspray or something...
Danny Siad it before I did. Yeah it aint Merom, it's Allendale or Conroe. The Allendale Processors are the E6300 and E6400. The Conroe Processors are the E6600, E6700 and the X6800.
Just use the computer. Does anyone really care what the case looks like? The case isn't surfing the internet or playing a game. Just tired of hearing people whine about dumb stuff.
It doesn't matter what things look like. That's why we all get our furniture from city dumps. And when we buy cars, let's face it, we don't give a hoot what they look like. And besides, silver plastic is cool cos it almost looks like metal. Not that I give a hoot.

what monitor is in the picture? i can't find it on HP's website.
Geez, what's with all the whining over how the case looks? My rig sits under my desk and I never look at it in the first place, so why would I shell out extra bucks for a sexy looking case? What matters is what's under the hood, and those are some great specs.
They could offer a Core Duo with HD-DVD, 4GB RAM, and 1TB hard drive, and a widescreen HDTV ready 20" monitor for $500, and some of you would still be bitching.
I'm happy with my HPs because if/when they break, their customer service actually stands behind their products, something that cannot be said of most companies these days.
