Intel, Omnicom bringing "10 foot" ads to on-demand Viiv content
Intel and Omnicom Media Group look to be bringing a little more advertising into your life, announcing that they're collaborating on so-called "10 foot" advertising templates for on-demand content delivered to Viiv-based computers. Details are a bit sketchy, with an actual roll-out still months (or more) away, but the deal could apparently include both video and interactive advertisements, in addition to more traditional banner-type adverts -- all of which Intel says will be both "highly targeted" and "relevant". The hope here is, of course, to make Viiv a more attractive platform for content providers -- carving out a middle ground between the free-for-all model and tougher-to-crack subscription or pay-per-use options on opposite sides of the spectrum.[Thanks, Ash]

Is this 'reporting' meant for content providers or other businesses? I cannot imagine a single 'consumer' that would take this as a positive thing, let alone be entertained in its seemingly-advocating write-up.
I really don't get what Viiv is all about but I don't see it taking off ever.
Interesting, I do tech/web trend reporting for an OmniCom company, and didn't even know about this. Should be interesting....
Which Omnicom Company?
Nothing that enters the VIIV comprehension distortion field escapes with its meaning intact.
anyone mind explain what viiv is?
You could have googled it and clicked on the very first link that comes up...

So if I understand this you are buying a media computer with pre installed ad-ware... BRILLIANT!
What is a "10-foot" advertisement?
I've just read the Intel web pages about VIIV and still don't understand what it does, I build home entertainment systems for a living including media Centre PC's but for the life of me I don't get what this is.
An excerpt from their page
"Intel® Viiv™ technology. It's like your TV—only better. It's unparalleled digital entertainment at your fingertips. And how it works can be summed up in a series of 1-2-3."
After that it doesn't sum things up as 1,2,3 - It goes on and on about how great it is, without ever explaining what it is.
I think its just means that the new core 2 duo processors are (surprise) faster than the older P4's etc... at encoding and stuff.
heh, i work for them as an it manager:) omnicom, like zulu - i wonder if we know ech other :p. But I work for them on the branding side.
Giant Advertivements and flashing ad banners, are suppose to make me run out and buy Intel VIIV computer parts or PC? Are they smoking crack? Um...No. Think I go with AMD thank you.
