Engadget commercial contest winners!
We know you've all been waiting patiently to find out the winners of the Engadget commercial contest, and to whom the spoils (that Sony Vaio VGN-AR190G Blu-ray laptop, MSRP $3,400) went. We received nearly 100 commercials, which totally blew our mind, but today is all about the winner of the contest, as well as eight runners up we selected after a few grueling sessions. All these commercials were so good that we had to give a new iPod shuffle to the other eight who didn't take home the laptop. To everyone else who entered, thanks so much for your submissions! We'll be airing more commercials very soon, but for now click on for the top nine!
The winner!

Ben Furneaux @ Oct 4th 2006 2:57PM
All amazing! The best man won :)
Nick @ Oct 5th 2006 6:19AM
I still can't understand why the character throws the papers away he just paid for with a large briefcase full of money - surely he'd want to keep the information? I can't see how dropping it makes him run any faster lol
pito189 @ Oct 4th 2006 3:00PM
Awesome commercials. The guys face on engadget dating video right when its about to start is hillarious.
C.A.M. @ Oct 4th 2006 3:00PM
They were all very good. Loved the Engadget Dating one, very funny.
Dave @ Oct 4th 2006 3:01PM
Very cool entries. It was fun working on Engadget Animal Babies and I'm glad it was at least selected as a runner-up! :o)
phi @ Oct 4th 2006 3:01PM
The screen-in-a-screen idea was cool, but I guess not as original as the winner. Congrats to all you guys, you did a bang up job.
Gianni @ Oct 4th 2006 4:56PM
I would have chosen "screens in screens" or "Your trip to the future starts here", oh well
Jeremy Bowles @ Oct 4th 2006 3:01PM
I guess I'm kind of bummed I didn't get the laptop, but the #1 deserved to win. And hey, an iPod Shuffle doesn't hurt ;)
Chris @ Oct 4th 2006 3:05PM
um, there are no images for me, just sound
Craig @ Oct 4th 2006 3:07PM
One word: wow
Some, ok all of those were freaking amazing!
Ryan @ Oct 4th 2006 3:07PM
Some of these are really clever and funny. Good job guys
Goldaar @ Oct 4th 2006 3:08PM
I liked the world of engadget one the best, but I can see why they picked the winner. All were great entries though, if at least a little disturbing... shudders at thought of pantless bunny.
Kyp @ Oct 4th 2006 3:12PM
Saw these at the reader meet-up in Boston. Verry happy this one won!
Robert @ Oct 4th 2006 3:15PM
they are all great and need to be seen when windows xp boots instead of "Windows Logo"
Baldwin @ Oct 4th 2006 3:19PM
I'm just wondering why I was aked to recut my commercial (which I did), but didn't win?
Maybee I'll have to wait..."be on the lookout for more Engadget commercials soon!"

Ryan Block @ Oct 4th 2006 3:26PM
I still intend to show your commercial, but on a 440px wide frame your commercial would have been impossible to see. Watch out for it soon!
David @ Oct 4th 2006 3:21PM
"Confused About Technology" is brilliant and should have won IMHO. It's short, effective, and clever.
Regula Oblique @ Oct 4th 2006 3:42PM
The Engadget dating Guy needs an oscar lol, jack black funny!
excellent
Mike @ Oct 4th 2006 3:45PM
Victor got robbed!
lolec @ Oct 4th 2006 4:02PM
Hey be carefull... I can tell for shure that he dosn`t coppy my idea, cuz i dont show any preview to anyone... And also for shure i don`t copy any ideas. There are many ways of telling the same thing, be respectfull with people work.
Congrats to the winner. 100% deserved . hope to see more of this soon.
g_stewart @ Oct 4th 2006 3:52PM
C'mon Engadget, you even test this player with Firefox?
Veronica @ Oct 4th 2006 4:00PM
Works perfectly in Firefox for me! Greats ads, by the way!
telepheedian @ Oct 4th 2006 3:58PM
firefox works fine, try updating flash
Lane @ Oct 4th 2006 4:17PM
Yea, it fails in older versions of flash (audio but no video). I can't update Flash because I'm at work and don't have administrator privileges. Boo to that.
MorningZ @ Oct 4th 2006 4:06PM
I liked the dating one the best as well.... and both "screen and screen"-s 2nd and 3rd.... the winning entry took way too long to develop, but it's still an excellent little production... congrats on the laptop
Frederik @ Oct 4th 2006 4:18PM
All of these commercials were awesome. It's not easy to pick a favorite.
Zulu @ Oct 4th 2006 4:20PM
who's flash player is that? Did engadget write that player or can you buy it somewhere? I like it. Nice, simple, plain interface....
Mithun Paul @ Oct 4th 2006 4:24PM
Guys,
Isn't that dating one really cool. Good fun watching it. CONGRATS ON THE WINNERS. Awesome work guys. Keep it rocking.
NPJ @ Oct 4th 2006 4:25PM
I dunno but to me the cartoon was absolutely hilarious... I know is it is not really usable due to content but I have to say it gave me a good laugh.
But all ads are absolutely great. Good job!
KilgoreTrout XL @ Oct 4th 2006 4:28PM
Engadget Dating was hysterical.
BatteryAcid @ Oct 4th 2006 4:39PM
My favorites were Dave Lovelace's, and Joe Russ's comercial.
Grant @ Oct 4th 2006 4:44PM
Hmmmmmm has the winner ever seen 'All the Presidents Men'? http://imdb.com/title/tt0074119/
JeffM @ Oct 4th 2006 4:46PM
How could you stiff Mr. Lovelace with runner up?
I thought the cereal one was better than the winner too...
Just trying to think of what would actually be entertaining on the couch... that cereal one was the best suited for TV. :)
Dan Sheppard @ Oct 4th 2006 5:02PM
Haha I enjoyed all of them. Glad to see mine up there (Confused about technology?). I saw the winner's on youtube and thought damn...thats some competition...the production quality is what made it work. A touch drug out(coulda been mch tighter but I found it very well done and a clever idea as well. I found out about this contest about 6 hours before it was due so I grabbed my cheapo handycam(instead of going to the school to rent a free GL-2) and pumped out my idea as fast as I could. Thanks to the people who said they liked mine. If I were to pick a favorite I would have to say....hmmm I think the Animal Babies one was pretty funny :). Well good job to all and I thanks for gettin us out there to be creative and have some fun Engadget!
znarfaggle @ Oct 4th 2006 5:03PM
i love them all, great job. i couldn't choose a winner out of all of these, they're great.
Ben @ Oct 4th 2006 5:07PM
OK, so don't hate me, but I actually didn't dig the commercial that won. I did like the screen-in-screen idea tho, both using that idea were great.
Alain @ Oct 4th 2006 5:07PM
World of Engadget, by Jeremy Bowles should have taken the prize
Mike Street @ Oct 4th 2006 5:16PM
WOw these where AWSOME! MY favorite was the bunnies and the World of Engadget
ajneil @ Oct 4th 2006 5:25PM
OK how about firefox on linux?
retro @ Oct 4th 2006 5:31PM
:O
That winning commercial is insanely well-made. Blows the other commercials out of the water (and there were some really good runner-ups). It definitely deserved to win. Congratulations!
Jordan @ Oct 4th 2006 5:38PM
Favorite is definately "confused about technology" for me... Although the winner was great as well. Heck, if the other one won, I would have said the same about the winner. Wow, that was confusing.
Could have done without engadget animal babies, though. I mean, seriously guys...
Aaron @ Oct 4th 2006 5:50PM
Congrats to all. Personally, I thought World of Engadget, by Jeremy Bowles; Screens in screens, by Juan Carlos Lopez; and Your trip to the future starts here, by Victor DiGiovanni were the most polished and professional of the bunch.
Taylor Kesler @ Oct 4th 2006 6:04PM
As the narrator and "bad guy" in the winning entry I can't really judge! But wow thanks engadget! And wow the other commercials were so good! I can see why it took so long to get the results. Great job everyone! At the end of the day there's still amazing websites who have really cool competitions and really awesome prizes.
- Taylor
Darrol @ Oct 4th 2006 6:52PM
I have to say I was not a fan of the one that was picked as a winner. I also did not like the animal babies one. I saw a couple in that list that were put together well.
PEZ @ Oct 4th 2006 7:01PM
Hmmm, I don't know.. I sort of like the 3 top runners up a bit more than the winner. Although, the winner was a cool idea, I actually thought the short version, with all the stops in it, was pretty hip and cool. Moreso than the longer version - it seemed to take to long.
The carTOON rocks! I say MOOOOOOOOOOORE bunny cartoons for engadgets!
Eran @ Oct 4th 2006 7:12PM
You guys rock. Best ads ever
Ken @ Oct 4th 2006 7:14PM
Winner was pretty good.. but even the short version seemed too long.. could make the same point in half the time for stronger effect.
screens in screens and the other one just like it should have been second runners ups.. any more contents? I will enter the next one for sure.
SOAD @ Oct 4th 2006 8:00PM
Wow, all of the commercials were awesome. Good job, guys!
