Looks like peoples in the retail industry are getting pretty stoked about the
Wiis about to make it into their respective stores. We got our hands on the CompUSA hardware / software markup sheet for Nintendo's new console, as well as some spy pics of some Target Wii endcaps and the variety of accessories
those will be stocking, as well. No, we're not that hard up for stuff on the console, but we do think that $12.50 is a pretty weak margin on the console, while, as expected, games, and accessories have a much fatter profit for retailers. Anyway, check it out (price on the left is, of course, retail; price on the right is cost):
WII CONSOLE - 249.99 / 237.50
WII REMOTE CONTROLL - 39.99 / 32.00
WII POINTS CARD - 24.99 / 17.00
WII CLASSIC CONTROLLER - 19.99 / 14.50
WII NUNCHUK CONTROLLER - 19.99 / 14.50
WII GPAK ORGANIZER&TRAVEL - 29.99 / 18.95
WII RAYMAN RAVING RABIDS - 49.99 / 41.2
WII THE LEGEND OF ZELDA:TW - 49.99 / 40.00
WII RED STEEL REVOLUTION - 49.99 / 41.22
More pics after the break!

nice, any pics of the classic controller?
QUOW @ Oct 7th 2006 6:40PM
The fact that the classic controller is only $20 and the games are only $50 makes this a purchase, for me.
Now, "Dog Tags and Lapel Pins"? WTF? While the controller gloves kick ass (and come in packs of three. Yay!), I don't see any need at all for dog tags.
shon Dempsey @ Oct 8th 2006 11:54AM
they're nintendog tags. and, yes, they're wiik.
Raider @ Oct 7th 2006 7:47PM
Yeah only $12.50 or margin on the console... but at least there is margin. The PlayStation 3 will be sold for the price the retailers get it for... the MSRP!
Plus you can't forget how retailers sell those service/replacement plans....
Devon Shaw @ Oct 7th 2006 6:57PM
Yeah, this is hot... nice to plan my purchases in advance.

lol, nice
Mike @ Oct 7th 2006 6:59PM
Obviously Nintendo has recognized the dangers presented by rooms full of arm waving children. This shows they care enough to make sure that the parents can identify the bodies.
Curt Chambers @ Oct 8th 2006 11:04AM
Mikes commetnts on the dog tags had me rolling! Too FUNNY!
Ray @ Oct 7th 2006 7:02PM
Those controller gloves look nice. I'm very likely going to consider getting the green/black/gray package.
Aram @ Oct 7th 2006 7:04PM
great spy pics!
btw there's a mistake on the last sentence... it should say "price on the left" instead of "prince on the left"
Jerod @ Oct 7th 2006 7:05PM
sweet...i like those cost prices as well...that's what i will be buying games and accessories for, i get a nice "at-cost" discount haha
Mo @ Oct 7th 2006 7:14PM
sweet, which places are taking preoders for the wii and how much do they charge?
Rustin @ Oct 7th 2006 7:14PM
Wow those are good pictures :) .. I love the prices on this stuff.
Jmac @ Oct 7th 2006 7:19PM
Has anyone noticed that little logo on all the boxes? with the two arrows pointing to those two words in turn? it kind of looks like "|-SWITCHCARRY--|
that is kind of stupi if it does but I'm probably wrong.
uclatommy @ Oct 7th 2006 7:22PM
interesting how the gloves comes in packs of three, but most people, if they consider buying extra controllers would have 4 controllers. Clever nintendo.. very clever.
Spiritsnare @ Oct 8th 2006 2:11AM
It's a modern metaphor to how hot dogs come in packs of 8 but buns come in packs of 12. >.>
robert @ Oct 8th 2006 12:36PM
It could also be due to the fact that if you want to differentiate between four controllers of a single color, you only need to change three of them so that you have four different colors (original and the three gloved ones).
But if the controller glove is not just to differentiate between the remotes, then you'd have to find a friend who wants your two of them.
Stu L Tissimus @ Oct 7th 2006 7:22PM
I'm still not liking that the combined price of the nunchuck and wiimote is $60. I wish they'd make a bundle that sold for a bit less...
Wildside @ Oct 7th 2006 7:23PM
hmm i dont get the controller gloves, what r they suppose to be used for?
uclatommy @ Oct 7th 2006 7:27PM
They are added protection for your controller in case it goes flying across the room. Kind of like what cell phone gloves are used for.
dan abarca @ Oct 8th 2006 9:21AM
also to identify player beyond the lcd light easier to recognize

ahh...the sweet smell of commerce.
James @ Oct 7th 2006 7:34PM
Official dog tags and lapel pins, Imma be all over those! On the other hand those "gloves" rub me the wrong way.
Brian @ Oct 7th 2006 7:45PM
I'm not so sure that $12 is a weak profit margin, since the other consoles are coming in at a negative margin of more than $140.
Raider @ Oct 7th 2006 7:59PM
They are talking about the margin the retailers pay. Only the manufacturers are losing out on money. The retailers get the consoles for almost MSRP. Maybe a dollar or two off. But they are probably barely breaking even with the PlayStation 3. They make their money, just like the manufacturers, on the games and accessories. Retailers make about $10-20 off each game sold and high mark ups off of accessories.
Rest assured that Nintendo will be making more than that per console. The machine itself probably costs $170, with a controller (costing Nintendo) only $25, plus the game is hardly ten dollars. I mean take a look at Wii sports... it still is a simple game. So lets say that brings the console to $205, but they are selling them for $237.50 to retailers. Well the retailers are making $12.50 off each Wii. Plus Nintendo is making about $30 off each console.
David @ Oct 7th 2006 11:25PM
Those negative margins are for the manufacturers (i.e. Sony and Microsoft), not the retailers; Best Buy/Circuit City/CompUSA don't sell anything for less than the price for which they purchased it.
cnxop @ Oct 23rd 2006 3:54PM
i'm doing a report for the product pricing on the Wii... I was wondering where you got that info from
plz reply, thnx
Joshua @ Oct 7th 2006 8:20PM
Awwww sweet! Controller gloves!
It's also cool to see how much these things actually cost to retailers.
Isaiah @ Oct 7th 2006 8:36PM
Allow me to be the first to coin the phrase "Wii Condom"
You're welcome. Please mark my name and the date.
Enjoy!
Jawknee @ Oct 7th 2006 8:43PM
@Isaiah
OMG i hope that phrase catches on. i'm gonna use it with my group of friends and see if it does.
Mrfreezie @ Oct 7th 2006 8:50PM
Wow, those are surprisingly cheaper than what nintendo is asking.
ChrisWray @ Oct 7th 2006 9:07PM
Delicious.
t .piper @ Oct 8th 2006 1:41AM
hey crew wassup i just ordered my wii in the nintendo store nyc today so they still have space i guess?? get yours quick
Los @ Oct 7th 2006 9:16PM
Hey my pics made it on.
Just FYI, you can't see it in the pics. The green controller glove with the 2 retro looking ones has a Zelda Triforce Logo embossed between the large A button hole and the 3 button set below it. The red has the Mario "M" on it, in the same spot.
I really am having to stifle my klepto thumb working on them.
mark @ Oct 7th 2006 9:21PM

this isn't indicative of Nintendo's actual cost, it is the cost that CompUSA buys from Nintendo. Their cost maybe $300+ but they can't sell it to CompUSA for $300 and expect them to retail it at $250. Truth is that we don't know what the console's cost is yet.
Hah @ Oct 7th 2006 9:36PM
Too bad this isn't on Joystiq
Jarrett Kaufman @ Oct 7th 2006 9:49PM
$12.50 isn't that slim of a margin. The margin on the other systems is usually only about $2 or $3. So Nintendo's actually ensuring the stores want to sell Wiis.
TJ @ Oct 7th 2006 9:48PM
I can't wait till their in stores, and I can play it.
dee-dee-deetarded @ Oct 8th 2006 10:54PM
yeah, walmart has been looking forward to not having them because of "motion activated" controllers, safety
Alex @ Oct 7th 2006 10:13PM
Am I the only one that saw the stand with holes for 4 wii-motes? That is a really good idea!
Cools @ Oct 8th 2006 10:43PM
It does say:
SWITCH
N
CARRY
on a lot of those packages. WiiCondom really fits too. It's like paintball. The gun barrel cover is called a Barrel Condom. I'm calling it WiiCondom. I hope the controller gloves aren't too thick like the covers for the ipod that I see (the silicon ones).
rob @ Oct 7th 2006 10:34PM
Controller Gloves......So your wii doesnt slip out of your hands
retro @ Oct 7th 2006 11:00PM
Raider: If Wii sports is hardly $10, then why is the Wii Sports-less Japanese Wii selling for $35 less than the North American bundle?
Wonderer @ Oct 7th 2006 11:08PM
Neat. Some of the colors (for the gloves mostly) are a bit odd though.
Neko Tsukimi @ Oct 7th 2006 11:32PM
I think I just had a fangasm looking at these pics... The gloves look like they may be a temporary solution until they come out with different colored Wiimotes.
Taylor @ Oct 8th 2006 12:32AM
I agree that the Wiimote gloves are probably meant for colour purposes rather than to protect the controller. That's why they come in packs of 3 - so you can leave one Wiimote uncolored (white) and the rest can be all kinds of crazy crap.
radd @ Oct 8th 2006 1:30AM
hmm...i'll check best buy's wholesale prices when i go work tomorrow. employees don't get discounts on the consoles but we'll get wholesale + 5% on everything else. gotta check it out!!!
