Palm picks October 12 to announce new Treo
It looks like attendees of this week's DigitalLife conference in New York City (our own Paul and Peter included) will be treated to the announcement of a brand spankin' new Treo model. Well, "new" might be a strong term here -- the 680 is probably considered the odds-on favorite to get official, and we sort of already scooped that on account of Palm's own blunder -- but nevertheless, we know a diehard Palm OS fan or two that'd like nothing more than to hear Palm confirm that the 680 is real and shipping on Cingular post haste. Of course, they've always got the Cingular version of the 750 as a backup if they decide to keep the 680 under wraps for a while longer, but if they do decide to pass that off as the "new Treo" they're unveiling, our guys on the scene will have boos and rotten vegetables at the ready.

We need a count down, and I need a new phone.
I was going to get a Cingular 8525, but I can't keep waiting around for it. I'm going to go ahead and pick up the 750 if that's what Palm actually announces.
Can you disable AMR-HR on a Palm like you can by seem editing a Motorola?
I'd love this phone, but I'll be darned if I'm going to pay full-rate and talk on a half-rate network! It's disabling AMR-HR or T-Mobile for me!
We need thinner and less heavy Treo !! This design starts to get old.
I agree. please make it thinner, smaller, without losing screen real estate. I'd even keep the antenna if it was a slimmer device.
Is it just me, or is the Treo in that photo actually thinner than the typical Treo? I just tried holding my existing 650 up to the screen at a similar angle, and I definitely see more thickness on my Treo than that thing.
Well, this is the great magic of Photoshopz!
This model seems to be a Treo 700p. In fact, 650 and 700 have pratically the same size (the 650 is 1mm broader):

I looked at the Treo 700 at that URL, and that doesn't look to me like the Treo shown in the illustration. Why do you say it's the Treo 700 specifically? It definitely looks noticeably thinner, and I don't think it's just the angle..... since when I hold my Treo at that exact same episode I can definitely see more thickness.
I think you're right but this is a sort of prototype or composite image (Engadget's graphic designer work?). The buttons looks clearly as 700's design but there is no antenna and it seems to have buttons or card slot on its right side which is new. Mmmm...
But you know, sometimes image for commercial use, wants to give the impression of something light. I had this exact effect with the Bell's Treo 650 promo images. I was a bit disappointed (of the thickness) when I bought mine and had it in my hands for the first time.
Look at these images of the 700, they are quite the same:

This said, it is perhaps the image of next the model indeed. Let us hope that it is the proof of an effort to reduce it ;)
The one thing Palm has forgotten is their a palm, not a windows device!
Correction: this really is the low-end Treo 680 image:

I was completely confuse, sorry :/
