It was a total mob scene after Palm's DigitalLife press conference, but we managed to fight the crowd and get our hands on the new Treo 680. Click on for a bunch of jumbo pics!

I ran into a problem when I tried to hot sync my Tungsten T3 with my new XP Media Center computer. The OS system didn't support XP Media Center though it would work with XP Professional. Confirmed with Palm. Anyone know whether the 680 supports XPMC?

Thanks - I'll give them a shot. I'll check with our workplaces to see if the firmware delete would suffice - let's hope. We both really want one of these. I know they did make a 600 that didn't even have the physical camera element inside or the firmware - just an empty cavity and no hole for the lens. With as many secure facilities as there are out there, you'd think demand would be pretty high for stuff like this, but apparently not.

i'm pretty sure the non-camera 650 was only available as an unlocked treo, not from any carrier, so maybe an unlocked 700?

also, why not just take acid or superglue or an xacto blade and mar the lens so badly that it can't physically take a picture?

So, it looks like the 680 is going to Cingular...too bad for us Verizon faithful...any news on if/ when they will make a CDMA 680?

Yeah, everybody bags on the Palm OS but it's a lot more reliable than Windows Mobile (in my experience). When I broke my 650 the Cingular guy talked me into getting a "better" 8125...wow, worst decision I've made in a long time. Clunky OS, network wouldn't stay connected...no push email with non-Microsoft servers. Treo users, you have it very good...so look before you leap to another solution. BTW, my 8125 got stolen and I just ordered a 680...can't wait.
