MacMice Danger Phone brings the low-cost VoIP via USB
We've seen many a' VoIP handset that takes a design page from cellphone manufacturers and seems to be similarly priced as well. But what about a VoIP phone for the rest of us? MacMice (the same folks who brought us the Danger Mouse) has just released one of the least expensive USB VoIP phones that we've seen, coming in at a nice and cool $30. This little rounded white handset, better known as the Danger Phone, will work with Macs and PCs alike -- so we'll take one for every computer at Engadget HQ, thanks.

Wal-mart has one for the same price, with a screen. Next, please.
Vladimir Kozyrev @ Oct 14th 2006 9:58AM
Sorry, I'd rather get the non screen one and not support wallmart. I dont support child labor. On topic though, it looks funny, I wouldn't get this one either.

Looks like every time you use it it'll stab your face with buttons.
srw985 @ Oct 14th 2006 10:56AM
yeah, how can you press it up against your face with buttons like that!
Ignacio @ Oct 14th 2006 11:50AM
"Looks like every time you use it it'll stab your face with buttons."
Well, it is called "Danger Phone"...
:D
Dolomite @ Oct 14th 2006 1:30PM
Maybe thats why they call it the Danger Phone?
srw985 @ Oct 14th 2006 10:55AM
$30 is about 16.50, and in the UK you can get loads of USB voip phones for 15.
And they have screens and stuff
So why is this so special?
Dp462090 @ Oct 14th 2006 11:38PM
"So why is this so special?"
It's really ugly?

A browse of the other products from this Taiwan company turns up everything else in the Macmice product line.

Gorgeous means 'kotz hsslich' in German.

Wow. Great detective work. You "discovered" exactly the manufacturer named as the backend maker of these products on the MacMice web site: http://www.macmice.com/contact.html
LOL

Woo, the iPhone is finally here.

to Jack Campbel:
I made no claim that I had done any "detective work". In the future, please attempt to ridicule me for things I have written, not things you have conjured.
Personally, I found it amusing that this macmice crowd would neglect to list the website of its parent company. Are they ashamed of its Chinglish-ridden cheesiness?
The parent company's products not sold by macmice are the best ones. Amongst the listed features of the Cappy mouse:
* Cappy Mouse is the advanced 800 cpi high resolution optical mouse offering the efficiency, user friendly.
* Best choice for making your life smart.
Those are exactly the features I search for when shopping for a mouse.

Don't worry about Jack Campbell, ubiquitous. He's the biggest fraud/troll the Mac community has to offer. He takes these cheap Taiwanese retreads, slaps on some laughably flowery marketing prose, and then tries to unload them on an unsuspecting Mac community. (With the help, sadly, of credulous bloggers like Engadget--"we'll take one for every computer at Engadget HQ"? Barf.) For a look at some of Jack's illustrious past business dealings, check out:

The amazing thing is that he lets his name out when he posts anywhere anymore... unless it *wasn't* him...
But yeah, he's pretty well a sleeze. I wouldn't buy anything from Macmice, for that very reason.
kadajawi @ Oct 16th 2006 10:41AM
Haha, yeah. Ugly as hell. And anyway, who wants to use these things when you can have these Bluetooth headsets? At home it doesn't matter that you look like a Borg.
Jack Campbell @ Oct 16th 2006 1:31PM
Hi Matt... Actually, I am proud of the design work our people are doing, and the manufacturing job our tiny little Taiwan parent company is doing to grow a nice line of affordable MacMice brand input products. So... yeah, I don't mind using my own name at all. The guys I am working for these days are doing a solid job, and I am very proud of that. I made some dumb moves over the past few years, but I haven't died, I still love computer gadgets, and, I still am involved in designing and marketing them... just with many well-earned lessons under my belt these days.
keith mancuso @ Oct 18th 2006 10:27PM
What a piece of crap. I purchased this phone and it showed up quickly but I couldnt get any of the buttons to work. The speaker and micrphone seem to work if i dial a number with skype using my mouse but none of the bottons do anything...
What a waste of money..

A glowing review for a shining turd.
