Transcend's 4GB SDHC high-speed class 6 card
Transcend is here to tell ya that they've got a special new SDHC card on the market. What's so special, you ask? Well, unlike those 4GB cards we've seen from Toshiba, Panasonic, and even Transcend themselves, this one's rated a class 6 on SDHC's 2/4/6 class scale. That means you're guaranteed a data rate of at least 6MB/sec making it a good choice for digital cameras and camcorders in need of some lickity quick SDHC storage. Oh wait, this just in, SanDisk's 4GB Ultra II SDHC card is also class 6 and was announced last month -- sorry Transcend, another second place. Available November for an undisclosed price. But as least you know who to compare it with now, right? [Via Impress]

Just purchased a Canon A720 and a Transcend SDHC 4GB card.
Tha camera can't format it so that it can be read in the reader on the computer. If I use the cable I can read the photos on the computer though.
I also have a 16 and a 512, and both of them can be formatted in the camera and read on a computer.
I can format them in another cmaera, and then reformat them in the Canon with good results.
The 4GB can be formatted in a different camera and read on the computer, just not by the Canon.
Could the card be bad?
SDHC and SD are not the same -- while the form factor is identical, the internal electronics are totally different. SD compatible devices (older ones) may not be able to support the internal electronics of SDHC. If your Canon camera is a few years old, that may be why you are having problems.
I have two cards, SDHC Class6 4GB, thinking one was bad and can't format in any device. I have a polaroid digital camera and it states no card and also in the laptop or card reader I put them in..can't be formatted. Pls. help.
Will the MiniSD version of this high capacity card be compatible with regular MiniSD devices or will my cell phone have to be SDHC?
I've heard both ways, it seems as though it will be a firmware update some of the time and then it also seems like a hardware difference the other part of the time...
confusing...
Transend is the budget brand from Toshiba.
No, actually
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcend
um, no. transcend isn't the budget brand of any company.
thomas, why don't you create something new and be the first to market?
Somehow, I trust more that the Transcend one won't crap over like every Sandisk product I've ever owned. it probably won't be as expensive as the SanDisk ripoff either.
I really don't get it. Why are we excited about 6MBps=40x ? When there are many SD cards that offer 150x? Isn't this a step down?
Understandable confusion, but peak (max) read speed and guaranteed minimum write speed are not directly comparable.
why 2nd place? transcend is class 6 and sandisk is class 6... both are 4gb.... is pretec's sdhc better? i need buying help here....
Speed Confusion:
Max Speed Continuous Speed
A continuous speed of 6MB/s may be a better card than a max speed of 20MB/s. There are 4 numbers to consider (Max Write, Max Read, Continous Write, Continous Read).
Does anyone know of a spot where you can find all 4 numbers?

SDHC Test (Sandisk/IOdata/Toshiba/Panasonic/Transcend/ATP)
Testing Results:
Sandisk SDHC Class 2: 17.82 seconds
IO Data SDHC Class 2: 11.09 seconds
Toshiba SDHC Class 4: 15.01 seconds
Panasonic SDHC Class 2: 11.40 seconds
Transcend SDHC Class 6: 11.25 seconds
ATP ProMax SDHC Class 6: 8.50 seconds
Testing Method:
The data below was derived by timing how long it took the Nikon D80 to write out 6 RAW images using "continuous shooting" mode.
Timing commenced when the camera's card status light illuminated, and stopped when the light went out. All cards were formatted in the camera prior to testing.
