Goodbye LG Chocolate, hello Shine!
LG keeps the hotness comin' with this new looker they've dubbed the Shine. Otherwise known as the SV420/LV4200/KV4200, this wispy thin 13-millimeter slider is their second Black Label series premium phone and features a new shiny metal design LG hopes will supplant Chocolate in the lustful hearts of consumers. Going brushed aluminum where it counts, the Shine delivers a 2 megapixel Schneider-Kreuznach shooter with flash, a media player with enough room for 1GB of MP3s (and more via expansion judging by the pics), Korea's M-Bank monetary service, and a 2.2-inch QVGA display which goes all mirror-like when off. Oh, and it's apparently coming to SK Telecom's 3G June network. Will it be as successful as the Chocolate? Time will tell but it sure caught our attention. Expected in Korea first just like the Chocolate, only this time LG, let's try to be a bit quicker on the global launch, eh? More pics and snaps after the break.

not sure why engadget complains about `global launch`, chocolate was released in eastern europe at the same time as in korea. same goes for all samsung/lg products. so seems like only your country is being left behind :)

Hope this one gets to a GSM carrier in the US if it comes to the US- who knows how Verizon might change this one if it became their exclusive. I personally didn't the changes to the Chocolate when Verizon got it, and I hope the same fate doesn't befall this phone.

Bah... The only time bits of brushed metal has worked well on a phone without feeling tacky has been the V3's keypad. I have a Samasung D900 (that's the skiny slider) and i think it's much better looking...

What is the battery life of these MP3 playin' cell phones?
BigD @ Oct 18th 2006 9:27AM
The battery life doesn't really matter. They all ship with extra batteries in Korea. They also have a place that you can pay to charge your battery on the subway cars by paying a small fee with your transit card. People in Korea get full use out of their cellies.

I would think that if you are broadcasting audio from the device the batteery should last as long as the talktime would be. The only sad thing is that if in that last hour of playback you get a phone call it will cause the phone to die whenever you answer it fomr the extra juice required to connect the call. I was considering one of those phones for the simple fact that it keeps my pockets light by combining my phone, mp3 player, and in some cases, PDA, but the battery on it just doesn't justify the purchase price.

This phone suxx !
Dave Pevsner @ Oct 18th 2006 11:06AM
i'mma show you how to get your shine on...
this on sprint, with a 4-directional scroll ball instead of a 2-directional scroll wheel (this is an LG, not a sony) might bring my loyalty back to LG sliders, but if not, I'm sticking with my new love: samsung ultra-slim clams.
this phone is nice, other than the lip and the scroll wheel, especially the mirror screen and the sexy, svelte, brushed look. and 1GB of onboard flash kicks american phone butt too. I hope to see it with a nice, bright yellow 'going forward' logo soon.

Looks pretty class on the first pic. Keypad looks pretty tacky with the lights though.
MinceyFresh @ Oct 18th 2006 12:29PM
Hey, if it's on SK Telecom's service right now, I wonder how possible that IF it ever comes Stateside that it would be added to Helio's lineup...

This thing is going to look even crappier after the first drop.

7/11 stores have those battery charge services as well. Especially useful on Saturday mornings when you wake up somewhere unusual. You can always charge your battery and call a taxi home.
Erick @ Oct 18th 2006 11:24PM
Verizon, I want one!!
michael @ Oct 19th 2006 10:57AM
Ithink this phone is beautiful except for the keypad which is terrible. I know it will take forever to come to canada if it even does. I mean we dont even have the chocolate yet (not that im interested I think the chocolate is ugly personally) but that might have to do with the fact I dont like sliders. I think the flip chocolate is much nicer. But this phone is so nice I might be willing to get my first slider if it comes to the cdma market. But I would prefer a flip phone with everything kept pretty much the same except the keyboard

What happens if your thumbs are wet or slippery, how would you access that jog wheel in the lower center.

the aluminum and silver plastic don't look right together. and the undercarriage of the sliding layer looks ghetto... i hope they fix those two things before it makes it to the US

WORST AFTER SALES CUSTOMER SERVICES OF LG PRODUCTS
I have bought Split AC (Jet Cool model C186KLA2) last month i.e. 06 May 07. But I am facing problem in AC from day 1 which do happen to new product but at rear occasion. However, renowned firm should have exceptional after sale support services to satisfy their valuable customers later on. On the contrast, the way customer services provided to me is eye opener for others who intend to buy LG products in future. The customer services of LG at Pakistan had bypassed all the norms of the business.
I don’t want to go into details of all which will be quite shameful for LG as it will disclose the methods of swindle being applied by customer service personnel to customers and unprofessional competence of their technicians & authorized installer.
Briefly, after more than 150 calls & frequent pursuance, the customer service in Pakistan has provided me used one and down model i.e. KLA1 against my new and up model i.e. KLA2. Prior replacement, they told me that they are going to replace my defective AC with same model and only less than one month used AC installed in the office of their branch manager. I accepted their offer because I already had enough mental tension and fatigue to resolve this issue. But, It was to my surprise when I saw AC installed by them is quite old and also, model is KLA1 instead of KLA2.
At net shell, I got old and down model split AC in lieu of my new and up model Split AC KLA2.
I had emailed Customer Service Department of LG Head office Korea i.e. Mr. Sohn : csson@lge.com & Mr. Kim : lodite@lge.com to seek justice but nobody bothered to respond to me. I was in contact with Mr. Muad Ali email: muadali@lge.com , probably looking after online customer service affair of Middle East Region in which Pakistan is included. But one week back, he emailed me and said that he called on all my given telephone numbers (also indicated in email my numbers in which he tried to contact me) but could not able to contact me. In returned I emailed to him that you tried to contact me on my land lines. You should have contacted on my mobile which I had already given to you along with land lines. After this he is quite for about one week.
I may advice to LG Head Office at Seoul, Korea, to take serious note of it, otherwise slowly and gradually other firms will snatched the market of LG product.
I need justice nothing else by getting replacement of same model.
