LG shows off 5.3 channel HT702TN home theater setup
The new HT702TN "flat home theater" speaker / player combo from LG has a plenty to love. Not only is the 5.3 action kind of neato, with that extra woofer in the front speaker, but the DVD box includes HDMI, with 480p, 720p, 1080i upsampling and other such good times. The player also supports DivX video and DVD-AUDIO playback, so this shiny setup should keep you plenty entertained for a budget unit. Of course, since we don't have any price or availability deets, we're not exactly sure how budgetary, or if this is due for the States or anything exciting as that, but them's the breaks.

I haven't really found any HTiBs that sound all that hot. Most of the time for just a little bit more money you can get a much more functional and future proof system, unless you're REALLY bottom feeding for like the $150 setups at Walmart.

@Enzo:
While still in college, my housemate and I picked up a Sony HTIB for around 250. It sounded decent, and was perfect for not caring when an over-alcohol'd visitor knocked one of the speakers over. They also seem pretty well geared towards people who don't want to learn that much about home theater, and just want to pull it out, plug it in, and have something resembling surround sound.
@LG:
5.3? Does this imply that they've made some fancy new source material that actually has 3 discrete subwoofer channels? Or are they just counting the number of "speakers" dedicated to each category (bass and treble). By that definition, I guess my setup at home has... 13.3 sound? I must be more uber-leet than I realized.
/Sorry for the hate, just seems like using "5.3" to describe their product is a little misleading (on purpose, no doubt). "Hey, this is way better than this old 5.1 system. Its 5.3!" Unless, of course, it actually is 5.3 sound. In which case, I am fully ready to offer a full retraction and giant apologies.

ya, what the deuce.
As someone who actually went to the trouble and expense of setting up a true 15.3 system (15 sattelite speakers with 3 seperate powered subs and 3 seperate recievers with individual 5.1 decoders) I am appauled at the flagarent misuse and abuse of the term. Look at the size of that centre speaker...no way in shit they managed to pack even a nominally decent sub in there....5.3 my ass LG. stop tricking gullible HTIB types.
