No double agent facade is complete with just an uber-stealthy
Sony Ericsson cellphone, as everyone understands that no
impossible improbable heist goes down without
wiring a few mil to that heavily secured offshore account. Stepping up to the oh-so-dodgy challenge is Sony's own 007 Edition
VAIO TX ultraportable, slimmed down to just 1-inch thick and weighing 2.8 pounds in order to fit comfortably in the matching Attaché briefcase. The 11.1-inch machine touts a carbon fiber enclosure, WXGA XBRITE display, 1.2GHz Intel U1400 Core Solo processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 80GB 4200RPM hard drive, Intel's GMA950 integrated graphics set, dual-layer DVD burner, and a snazzy "privacy screen" that blurs all on-screen content to curious enemies not looking head-on. The
Casino Royale-approved device also touts audio in / out, Ethernet, 56k modem, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, 4-pin FireWire, MS / MSPro reader, PCMCIA, and the wireless tools (read: WiFi / Bluetooth) no undercover assassin could function without. For snapping up those incriminating reconnaissance photos, Sony bundles in a DSC-T50B (the "B" is for Bond, presumably) which rocks the same bevy of specs found on its
less-secretive sibling, but sports a sleek, black finish and the obligatory 007 logo. While you may have got turned down when looking to become Pierce Brosnan's sure-to-be-legendary successor, you can live vicariously through
Sony for just $4,299.99 -- but those desirable silhouettes are unfortunately not included.
[Thanks, Will]

No silhouette? No sale.
;-)
Seriously though... 56k modem? If you're spending the kind of cash necessary to get this "special edition", you're probably not staying in, or going to, or living in, a place that still has dial-up.
(My bet is on 3 posts before someone suggests using the battery as a hidden weapon/explosive.)
asher @ Oct 20th 2006 12:44PM
I won't comment on the exploding battery...
It is, however, the only known laptop to support: minidisc, beta and betamax and playstation.
The laptop will self destruct exactly 1 minute after the warranty expires.
Eggie @ Oct 20th 2006 12:41PM
Does the battery self-destruct?

"Pierce Brosnan's sure-to-be-legendary successor," but isn't Casino Royale set before ol' JB ever bacame a "double o" agent? Wouldn't that make him Pierce Brosnan's predecessor?
Wonderboy @ Oct 20th 2006 1:04PM
If you ask me (and I know you didn't) the questionable part is about the new guy having a "sure-to-be-legendary" status. To me he looks rediculous and non-Bond-ish.
I'm still gonna see the movie, but I don't have high hopes for this new guy.

Aren't those Canadian Dollars? So it's closer to $3825 or 2029? Doesn't seem like quite such a bad deal... still hideously overpriced though.

indeed wonderboy.
Letting Brosnan go because he wanted to put the Bond back in Bond instead of more Matrix in Bond was a stupid stupid move.
I'll be there with bells on, but I'm not expecting much in the way of plot/character development, just more mind numbing, totally impossible action sequences.

What? No laser pen?

Nice package, indeed! Reminds me a lot of the VAIO X505 bundle I have and that was offered in Japan, but with no 007 stuff.
@Wonderbiy: As for including 56K modem.... it is for those reviewers who will start whining and putting the notebook down right away, saying that it is a big no-no not to include 56k because some one in the boonies still has to dial to get online; but again in some days when my high speed was down and there were no nearby hot spots available, dial-up was and is a saver and a back up in such situations. Say thanks for not including serial printer port!
Wonderboy @ Oct 20th 2006 2:43PM
Fair enough... but maybe they should throw in a paper copy of the 007 book, just in case people don't have broadband, or dial-up, or electricity... ;-)

It's not actually the DSC-T50/B, it's the DSC-T50/JB according to Sonystyle USA. That obviously stands for James Bond. Maybe they later changed the name when they decided to sell the camera by itself, it is true the DSC-T50B is the black T-50. Here's a link to prove it:

Aww 56K? I was about to give someone's left nut for this baby...maybe I still will.
Tyler @ Oct 24th 2006 9:43AM
They actually have another one as well: a UX-280P (MicroPC/UMPC), a bluetooth GPS and the CyberShot...pretty cool. Here is the link

the b means black not bond. the last letter in our product model number determines its color typically.

what tart is going to buy this monkey prop? fakeSteve has it right on the dollar - you going to 007 on a plane with this uberNerd spunktoma? Fat geek nil-girlfriend boy who hasn't seen his jT since sophomore maybe; sane, fashion-thermometer respecter - no. They say no. That's no. No.
