BenQ's W10000 1080p DLP projector
Man, if you thought BenQ's PE8720 was a winner, then try on the Full HD W10000 DLP projector. Just like its 720p bro, the W10000 pumps a 10:000:1 contrast ratio with TI's DarkChip3 DLP at the guts and brings a 250W lamp capable of delivering 1,100 lumens over a life of between 2,000 hours on up to 3,000 hours in economy mode. And yeah, Benq's calling "Full HD" on this as is the trend, so we're talkin' heaps of pixels in this 1080p (1920x1080) resolution projector operating at 25dB normally, or as low as 23dB in eco-mode. As for the inputs, you'll get what you need: HDMI v1.2, S-Video, 2x component, RGB, and RS-232. Expected to start shipping first in Japan starting early November for ¥628,000 or about $5,253 -- righteous pricing for a DarkChip3 core. Click-on for a pic of the backside inputs.
Update: Er, after posting, BenQ rolled with the english press release, The W10000 is a single-chip color-wheel based DLP, only.

I am replacing the bulb on my PE8720 for the third time in two years. It's a good thing I purchase the MACK 3 yr bulb warranty. I was emailed by MACK that I am only covered for TWO bulbs within the 3 yrs. I do not read that in the contract. Is this true?
Also, has anyone thought of modifying the PE8720 to upgrade the unit to produce 1080P? The W10000 unit appears to be the identical box.
sounds sweet... i normally dont read projector articles, so can anyone tell me if 5300 is par for a projector like this?
Meh. IMHO, the Sanyo PLV-Z5 still has the best balance between features and price.
i have a standard 800X600 DLP projector at the moment that i got off ebay with new bulb for £300, which was AWSOME, and it still never stops impressing me with the quality it shows.
but i am still waiting to get ahold of a 1080p DLP projector, but just waiting for a little price drop.
and by each passing week its geting close and closer.
if anyone can point me to a cheap 720p or 1080p projector with similar imputs to this, mainly VGA, HDMI and component for my 360, i would much appreciate it.
www.projectorcentral.com has good guides to projectors.
The new Panisonic PTX100 or something like that is a 720p that'll do up to 2000 actual lumens so that it can be used with ambient light in the room.
Check out that and the z5 on that site.
That's a pretty rockin deal on a 3chip DLP at 1080p resolution though.
bzzzzzzzzzt. thanks for playing. this is a ONE dlp chip projector, not 3 guys. come ON!
This will fit perfectly with this: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=933
EXPENSIVE BULBS ... i expensive bulbs and the low life of 2000hrs to 3000hrs....
I will wait for the projector that can pump out either 720p or 1080p resolution BUT BUT BUT ...WITH A LAMP LIFE ABOVE 6000hrs atleast.....8000hrs being the best.
1000 luminen is good enough for home movies.......
About 6 months ago someone told me that by the holiday season 1080p projectors would hit the sub-$5k price point (Keep in mind this was when about the least expensive one you could find was ~$30K). I believe the person said "When the 1080p bomb drops in November"
I didn't believe it was going to happen, but now look at this! I'm glad to see projectors becoming so much more popular and affordable since I've always wanted one but never really could justify the costs...
I do somewhat agree about the "expensive bulbs" problem, but the other thing you have to realize is that people want small, quiet projectors with no light leaks. In order to use less expensive lamps you have to sacrifice on all three points. It's kind of unfortunate that there isn't a very good option when you *are* willing to make that concession, but at the very least if you are thinking about it now, then at least you can make an informed buying decision based on replacement bulb costs...
I won't buy anything from Benq after what they did to former Siemens Mobile.
Nice to see higher res projectors coming out at affordable prices, however I've heard pretty much nothing but bad things about Benq's projectors (and their ability to service them). I'd stick with Panasonic, Epson or Sanyo.
Yeah, but can anyone think of the cheapest 1080p/i DLP/LCD projector that pumps over 5000 Lumens, with optional or long throw lenses, available? Everything I can find is over $20K. I figure a little expertise is in order.
All-yellow YCbCr inputs? Man this is going to confuse some people :-D (Well, realistically, if you're dropping $6K on a projector, you'd better know the proper way to plug in!)
We just installed the W10000 for a client, and it's surpassed our expectations. Comparing to other installs, it beats the Sharp and Vidikron models in their respective fields, and it's the extremely quiet! The only element I wish we had was more controls of the geometry. There is no rotation, pin cushion or horizontal adjustments, just lens shift up and down, so mounting is key. A great projector overall, 9 out of 10 rating for me.
By the way the component hook up on the back of the projector is now color coated so hooking up is elementry.
