Sticking to
its word, Sprint has lit up its first EV-DO
Revision A mobile broadband network today, covering San Diego to start with 20 additional markets set to launch before year's end. The upgraded Sprint Power Vision network boosts real-life upload speeds to the 300-400 kbps level, kicking the current 50-70 kbps transfer rates back to 1995 where they belong. Observed download speeds also get a shot in the arm, albeit a more modest jump to 450–800 kbps, up from 400-700 kbps. While San Diegans get all the bragging rights for the time being, folks in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and seventeen other markets can rest easy knowing that they'll be able to bask in some Rev. A goodness by the end of the year -- check the link below for the complete list. And if you're not on that list, Sprint says it should have its network completely upgraded by the third quarter of 2007.
First - woooot!
I assume the upgraded upload speed is for the introduction of video phone services...just a guess.
MediaFlo (upgraded video service) works on OFDM, not Rev A.
That's how the launch of Rev.A in Japan happened- KDDI introduced videophone with all the new cellphones that supported Rev.A (only 2 at the moment- they're both Toshibas, I think but check KDDI's website to make sure).
What about us poor bastards here in Greenville, SC who still don't have regular Power Vision service yet?
I wonder if the current smart devics that are evdo revision o will be software upgradable to rev A????
Lots of discussions about where EVDO activations are happening (at all speeds) on the best EVDO FORUMS - http://www.evdoforums.com
Now we'll here people complaining about dropping downloads too.
Back to 1995? lol
If we had 50-70k in 1995, we'd have had EvDO years ago.
Rel 0 devices are not upgradable to Rev A speeds. It requires a different baseband chip.
Hmm, see thats weird because every evdo rev 0 device on sprints network is currently running on rev a if they are in area, because they upgraded their entire network, all of my phones show the speed increase. so we must just be in a downward spiraling black hole of impossibility....... but id think it would be darker..
I am looking for information on EvDO Rev A, phones, Network, some more technical details on the Evdo
Thanks
Amit
The Linksys EVDO router is a great way to share your Sprint EVDO connection. Read a thorough review by the EVDO experts at http://www.evdoinfo.com here:
