LiteOn HD-A070GX HD PVR with HDD and DVD
It's all been done before, and we're sure it'll all be done again, but LiteOn's new HD-A970GX hybrid PVR boasts of HD resolutions, and works with a hard drive and DVD drive for storage and playback. The 320GB drive isn't the largest around, but it should do the trick, and the included HDMI cable is a nice touch. The A970GX records video to DivX so you can ship your recordings over to you PC or portable player without much hassle. The unit also does the 1080p upscale thing, which is still one of your best bets for getting passable "HD" content for your fancy HDTV. I'm curious on the price tag. Has to be 1,200 to 1,500 USD.
For only OTA HD right? AFAIK, my cable box doesn't pass HD over component/DVI, it down rezzes to S-Video. So I could care less about recording HD then downrezzed to S-Video so I can archive to DVD/Mac. Or am I missing something?
I would say get a different cable box. There are plenty of boxes that pass HD over component, DVI, and HDMI. My current box is a "Pace" and it does the trick.
This thing has a scart-in adapter, and from the look of it, it seems to accept a RGB connection. I'm guessing that is either VGA or component. So is it possible that it accepts HD component? Or is it just limited to 480i component? I'm guessing the latter as the bandwidth and re-compression of component HD is extremely HW intense. It outputs PAL-only so it's practically useless for us in the states.
It seems like DivX support is popping up in everything these days.
Speaking of DIVX, the stock has been performing very well lately.
Who would have thought you could make money just by reading Endagdet everyday!
How much?
It only supports DivX playback, not recording.
