FCC confirms new Nokia internet tablet device
Well, we don't really have a whole lot to tell you, but our pals at the Federal Communications Commission have all but confirmed the existence of what appears to be the new Nokia internet tablet (870? 880?). The FCC docs don't really tell us very much, other than that Nokia is releasing something later on down the road. So there you go, if you've got nothing better to do this weekend and have trouble sleeping, page after page of FCC filings ought to do the trick.

I suppose if it's a tablet device, you'd want the controls on the left side. That way, you can scroll and use the stylus at the same time. Makes sense, right? Unless, I guess, if you can only use the stylus or the scroller at once (though that seems stupid). I'm just thinking out loud though.

I like this design. Hopefully the device has 3g, at least 800px screen width, better 1024px and tabbed browsing.

Buy a Windows Mobile PDA/Phone. You'll be much happier.

Been there -- the 770 is a far superior device if you're looking for an internet communication device and not a PDA.

Maybe with the 770 selling out everywhere, Nokia realized they should do a followup model and charge the $800 - $1000 everyone else is charging for wireless Internet tablets. I hope not though. I'll snap this up in a heartbeat if it comes out with a beefier processor than the 770, more memory (RAM not program storage space), and keeps using Linux.
Intrepid: Uhhh....? You do realize this thing is a fully functional web browser and not a web browsing phone? Scrolling around web pages or looking at their gimped 'mobile' versions are not my cup of tea...

I'm a 770 owner I could agree more with otaku, regarding the 770 vs Smartphones. I wanted mobile web browsing and 770 is the best thing out there. And you can't be the price considering at least 1/3 the price of a UMPC.

Whoops. Meant to reply to this thread and not the other:
I did the work deconstructing it: http://thoughtfix.blogspot.com/2006/10/next-generation-tablet-fcc-docs.html

From all there is in the FCC docs, it seems Nokia doesn't really make a big step forward. The design - as I wrote before - is a step backwards compared to the elegance of the 770. There's no such thing as GPS in the 870/880 (even though it seems the 330 will have it built in). What elese could there be to make me want to buy it? It could be faster (CPU/memory). Well, I'm quite content with my 770 at the moment as far as speed is concernded. I would want a successor to support USB host mode. Any news on this?
