GlobalSat's GV-370T GPS navigator with MP3 playback, of course
Have at it kids, yet another 3.5-inch GPS navigator only this time from GlobalSat. The GV-370T is the latest SiRFstar III satnav device to deliver North American and Europe navigation along with MP3 and photo viewing capability (what, no video?). Powered by a Samsung SC2410 proc running WinCE, the GV-370T features 64MB Flash ROM / 64MB SDRAM with SD expansion for maps, a 1200mAh Lithium-ion rechargeable offering up to 2-hours 15-minutes continuous operation or 100 hours standby, and 3.5-mm stereo jack for music on the go. Not the prettiest girl on the block but she probably won't cost ya much either whenever GlobalSat manages to turn 'er out.

Incidentally, my grandmother is preparing to announce her very own 3.5" GPS satnav with sirfstar III receiver later this year.
It will offer 3D maps, mp3 playback, and picture viewer.
Sheesh, who isn't getting into the satnav game these days? It seems like we hear about 2 or 3 new ones everyday!

Can we just have a GPS nav system without all the extra crap for once?
All I need is:
* color screen
* all US maps built-in
* audible directions
That's it. Is it really that hard?

"All the extra crap" in this case basically comes for free: if you build a device that runs on WinCE, reads an SD card, and can give audible directions, then it inherently can display pictures and play MP3s, and you'd have to be some sort of moron not to advertise those "extra features".
They'd actually have to re-engineer the thing to strip out those features - sorta like the (apocryphal?) story about how when Hondas or Datsuns - I forget which - were first sold here, they were sold with or without a radio - but they really all had radios; the ones sold "without" just had an extra panel covering it.

they really are starting to look all the same, are there any new ideas coming out in new GPS systems? Personally i thinkl mp3 is a useful function as many people are moving to MP3 players of some sort in their vehicle, it just reduces clutter of multiple devices.
