Another point that should be made is that this project uses a lamp that is about 30$, whereas lamps for off-the-shelf projectors are approx 300-400$. The only thing preventing me from buying a brand name projector for home is that I will have to spend 1/4 of the price of the projector every year or so (if I plan to use it as my main living room viewer).
Does anyone know of a retail projector that uses a lamp that is any cheaper?
milo, the only one I know of is Infocus's X1. I think it's SVGA. It cost around $1000 when it was released, and the bulbs were definately more than a metal halide bulb, but the lifetime was much better than most off-the-shelf projectors. Not as fun/cool as this though.
