PS3 hopefuls line up weeks before launch
And you thought you were a fanboy. A Cheap Ass Gamer forum member recently spotted 7 schmucks die-hard fans outside his local Best Buy, already queuing up for the PS3. A Best Buy employee claimed they'd been there since Monday, so we're thinking these guys just got the date confused by a couple of weeks, and are really kicking themselves now that the Cheeto stash has run out.

I never understood how these people can wait in line for days or even weeks for something. Like the people who stand in line for 3 weeks for tickets to Star wars. I got my tickets online and saw the first showing on opening day. I didn't have to spend anytime in a line or lose any of my self respect (except for sitting next to a guy dressed like boba fett). Don't these people have jobs or go to school of have a girlfriend? If they do have a girlfriend then after they find out they spent a week in line for a game system they won't have her for long.
News flash they are just game consoles not food or medicine you don't need them to survive. If you don't get one you will not die and the world will continue to turn. I am looking forward to them just about as much as the next guy and have gotten mine pre ordered. If for some reason I didn't and I was unable to get one I would not worry that much they are going to make more of them so everyone that wants one will have a chance to get one. So you don't get it on launch day big deal some people need to get their priorities strait.
If they think this wait is long, wait until they have to deal with Sony customer service
I agree with Seamus Bartlett, these people probably misunderstood the date on the TV commercials.
I think some Engadget readers, I mean, MOST readers, just enjoy calling others losers or fanboys.
JS80 is a dumbass they wouldnt work 24 hours a day hahahaha do it like this retard 9 days x 8 work hours if they arent in fact part time losers....thats 72 work hours then you would go 72 work hours x 7 dollars an hour which is $504.00 but like i said thats if they work full time and if they got payed 7 dollars an hour.Ok boys and girls theres your math lessons for today lol.XBOX 4 EVER.
I don't feel like reading all the comments but in case it hasn't been covered. How do we know these people are buying the PS3 to play? They could sit for a week, get one, and sell it on ebay that night for about a $1500 profit.. I wouldnt mind sitting around and eating food for a week for 1500..
To the comment:
"i dont know about this PR theory... i mean with so little PS3s, there is no point in creating hype, they will sell every single they ship until next summer, due to minuscule availability (huge demand isnt that necesary)."
You seriously believe in a shortage? Really? Companies as big as sony have enough pull and sway in the markets to get whatever parts they want, as fast as they want, in as large of quanties as they want. Now and again there can be shortages, especially if you dont expect high demand for something. When the xbox 360 came out, the scarcity of the systems made them sell out every single system in the US before they even hit retail floors. Sony is merely doing this same thing (in my opinion anyway). If you force scarcity on something, you can squeeze a lot more money out of people than if you have surplus. Seems backwards i know but just look at this from a parent's perspective. If their kid asks for a PS3 for christmas, and the system can be bought anywhere, they look at it and say "holy crap that's an expensive video game" and perhaps wait for a price drop. NOW take this same parent, but the PS3 is a highly coveted item, they will do whatever they have to, including paying sometimes DOUBLE the original ticket price so that they can ensure that their child is one of the kids on the block to have a new gaming system. It's all about the psychology of business, it's quite devious when you think about it.
Sony should be able to keep this shortage crap up for a good 2+ months after christmas and sell every single console they produce. Controlled scarcity....... Such evil.
Don't you hate it when some chump takes credit for your work?

That's where those pic I took on Tuesday at Burbank comes from.
This stuff is more stupid than the David Blaine stunts. Seriously.
Come on....Coommmmeee Ooon... Coommme On!!! =P
I would easily go along with the idea that BestBuy or Sony is paying them to do this for the publicity but at the same time can see BestBuy in their stupidity having them arrested for loitering on the Thursday coming up.
Went to this particular Best Buy in the picture...they just PS3 fans...just wanted to make sure they got a PS3..getting there that early is what it took! Good for them if they can waste 2 weeks of their life. haha
That's sad man, wasting a few weeks of your life sitting around waiting for something to waste even more of your life doing and presumably just for the bragging rights of having one first. The biggest question is are they sitting their waiting playing PSP's or DS's?
thanks for the mention!
Why don't they just go to a smaller city's best buy in like, say, another week?
