Wii hands-on, unboxing!

We just got our Wii in the mail, so let's get started, shall we? We won't clutter this experience with a whole lot of words, but we can tell you we'll be bringing plenty more Wii coverage in the next few hours, so stay tuned!
P.S. -For the highest quality images here, max that browser as wide as it goes (the images will expand).

Hmm... Flashbacks to the original Famicom... I can't say I'm all that thrilled with the plasticy styling of this one. YMMV.
please, set up some proper lightning so we don't have to watch all that ugly grain. makes for a really lame presentation, engadget.
One word, BLAND.
ok, so this is the first time i've seen the sensor bar that comes with this thing, and it got me thinking. I've got a projection system setup, so all my components sit next to my sofa, to shorten the length of wires to the projector. This is about 15 feet away from my screen (which is 100 inch diagional widescreen). I doubt the wire comming from the sensor bar is that long, so how will I get this to reach the Wii. Also, will this work on a 100 inch screen? (btw, GoW kicks ass at 100 inches in HD, just had to throw that out)
there will be a wireless sensor bar
wow that looks awsome. im deffinetly gonna spend the night at toysrus to get my preorder the second they open.
i really like the way they hid the gc control and memory slots. well there is only 7 days 13 hours 38 minutes and 15 seconds left
I can't wait till I get one - camping out at wallmart all day. Hopefully snag 2 - dump one and get myself a lil discount. The exterior design says nothing other than "I'm simply smaller" - which isn't soo bad. Looks better than the PS3 IMHO - still like the 360's curves. Personally - i love the small size - i don't want something the size of my stereo reciever to play games on - i always loved the gamecube being the size it is.
I love the gamecube ports and mem card slots. - wonder how much noise it makes.
Awaiting my chance to play on one.
Thanks Engadget. No one else seems to be posting this many pics.
Feels good knowing that I'm getting one!
Sweet, it reminds me of my 8 bit Nintendo set :)
Just a few things to say:
1. That thing is ugly as hell, it looks very cheaply made; Of course, it is well made, but it doesn't look that way at all. The cube was way better looking. It's about on par with the Playstation in looks *vomits*
2. It seems huge powerbricks are becoming more popular... I have the Gamecube one in my hand and it's only 11x6x4cm, this thing is something else. The 360 also has a huge one, but I hear the PS3 has it built in. Sony are obviously the best of the 3 in terms of producing electronics as they are an electronics company, so they have more experience in dealing with heat and space issues.
3. The sensor thing is smaller than I thought which is good
I'm sure the games and controller make up for the bad things, but this is a console I'd probably have hidden inside a paper bag to make it less of an eye-sore. To sum it up, I'd buy one for the experience and low price for sure. Right after I get a 360 that is
@Plastik,
huge powerbricks!?
The Wii is supposedly the size of 3 DVD cases side by side, a DVDcase is 19cm x 13.5cm x 1.5cm.
Thw power brick 2/3 Wii's length (12cm) x 1/3 width (5cm) x about 5cm - so about the same size as you GC brick (from measuring the pictures on here!)
Eww
To be honest, It doesn't look as good as i expected it to be..
This is the next generation of gaming!!!
Yeah, they're supposed to last 60(!) hours w/ only motion and 30 with pointing. Compared to the 360, thats great, but a rechargable pack would be nice.
But still 60 hours!!!!!!
What a non starter, its so underwhelming, will anyone but rapant fanboys in their 30's care? Utterly awful controller. Nintendo's final console, hopefully, then they can make games for real videogames machines.
Wow, anti-Ninty much? Nintendo's been in the gaming business since the 1800's (making playing cards). I doubt they'll stop anytime soon. They're on the rise again. XBox is stagnating, and PlayStation is quickly going downhill.
OMG STOP TEH TORTURE!
What an utterly stupid comment to say this will HOPEFULLY be Nintendo's last console. You're an absolute moron to think this will count them out of the business. Clearly you know everything there is to know.
The picture on the box looks like a nurse checking a patient's heart rate.
Nintendo isn't going to make one but you can expect companies like Penguin or others to make extendeder cables for the sensor bar because it's going to be an issue for other people as well.
And you call that a brick? Do you have shit in your eye or something. Of course the power adapter is going to look big next to it in that close up picture but you have to keep in mind the initial size of the Wii. I've held an xboxb 360 power adapter in my hand and I was about to clock someone in the head with it to see how much brain damage I could cause. The xbox360 power adapter is like half their machine.. and their machine is way larger than Nintendo's Wii.
This the first time I've seen the sensor bar that goes on top of the TV. Might have a problem though... my plasma is recessed into the wall and there is no where to put the sensor. On the ground?
This is my favorite post of 06 because i love my wii and i just looked at these picks over and over again before i could get my hands on one. Thanks for making the wait easier...
