The games man the games!!!!!
mortan salty @ Nov 10th 2006 7:11PM
I really hope that is not how they shipped it. Like One piece of tape with some some shredded newspaper.
Aaron Pru @ Nov 10th 2006 7:11PM
That's an interesting choice of set, looks like Ryan is in prison.
danny @ Nov 10th 2006 7:20PM
This is 1000x more interesting than 'unboxing' pics gallery. I'm really starting to understand why we call it pr0n.
tekdroid @ Nov 10th 2006 7:21PM
The Wii's box looks awfully frail to protect the contents from drops
and shipping, etc. Maybe it's just me?
The main box it came in with blue & white shredded paper in the
box matches the blue&white colours of the Wii box. Intentional? Probably
:)
Eh @ Nov 10th 2006 7:36PM
I seriously doubt they shipped a pre-release console via FedEx or UPS. A nintendo exec probably delivered it themselves to each office.
Gamespot did a live gaming marathon with the Wii today if you wanted to watch some games. The Zelda one kind of sucked though because the guy playing couldnt figure out how to play the game right.
mike @ Nov 11th 2006 1:43AM
Actually i bet they did ship it that way, a co-worker of mine got his PS3 today in the mail via DHL (or maybe FedEx), they ship it the normal way, they might as well, they just make sure the person signs for it...
Here is a pic of me with the box, he had to leave work early so he couldn't set it up or un-box it, but he will be brining it back this week...

Montusama @ Nov 10th 2006 7:41PM
So....I can come over right? XD
*runs to share this with friends* this will surely ruin their day of opening up the box
Darrol @ Nov 10th 2006 7:45PM
Seeing that just makes me want a Wii more than I do already.
Matt @ Nov 10th 2006 7:49PM
he looks a little too happy while opening that
James @ Nov 10th 2006 7:51PM
That's seriously impressive one handed unboxing by Ryan, there.
Grant H @ Nov 10th 2006 7:52PM
Is it me, or does this machine lack any finesse? It looks like a pre 90's piece of equipment (where the base console is concerned). The publicity pictures showed it looking stylish and futuristic, but in the flesh it looks somewhat...not?
tekdroid @ Nov 10th 2006 9:38PM
absolutely. Especially the (impractical, easily broken) doors and rectangular-yet-cornerish buttons. Definitely some 80s box design dressed in white. Good thing the controllers look like they might be comfortable.
Aaron @ Nov 11th 2006 1:19AM
I totally agree, they made it look a lot cooler than it really is. It looks very outdated. At least the controller still looks fun, which I guess is the important part.
Paul @ Nov 10th 2006 7:57PM
I never really understood how small that thing was until I saw him picking it up one handed and flipping it around, unless he has huge hands that thing is fricken small
Joe Talerico @ Nov 10th 2006 8:03PM
Engadget!!! BUY YOUR GUYS A TRIPOD!! He needs to have two hands to open the box! :)
Looks cool thought!
Paul @ Nov 10th 2006 8:08PM
It seems he was using a tripod at the begining, then stopped using one.
The only reason I can think for this is that he could give a better view if he was holding the camera as he was shooting.
I think the ideal case here would be to get some random person from around the office to come hold the camera for him while he unwrapped it.
Farris @ Nov 10th 2006 8:07PM
Haha, the moment "wii've" all been waiting for!
ipodrulz @ Nov 10th 2006 8:26PM
Kinda rough with the stuff hey?? At first when I heard the name Wii compared to Revolution, i was sure I was going for a PS3... but I think I might rather something small, rather than HUGE.... got some thinking to do..
Austin @ Nov 10th 2006 8:40PM
Very classy packaging. Nintendo had to have taken a cue from Apple.
James @ Nov 10th 2006 8:59PM
Looks like the unboxing video was totally set up. I'll bet that the original package was opened & repacked for the "unboxing" video. Why would Nintendo do such a crappy job of packing the contents with just confetti at the bottom? It's not even properly insulated from shipping.
I call shenanigans!
Peanut @ Nov 10th 2006 9:50PM
That is one holy moment! Beautiful but I do have a suggestion... Why always do it alone? Have a friend hold the camera next time maybe? Not really complaining but it would help a lot with the unboxing, but then again you do need another hand for something else rather as it is pr0n.
Gary T @ Nov 10th 2006 10:30PM
That was a pretty unceremonious and disrespectful unboxing there. You're gonna have to show a little more respect if you expect to continue getting the prerelease schwag from Teh Corps...
Oh, and the Wii case looks cheap and plasticky.
peej @ Nov 10th 2006 11:33PM
Best job ever.
RogueAce @ Nov 10th 2006 11:52PM
the guy who filmed this was really rough on the Wii accessories
Chiablo @ Nov 11th 2006 12:39AM
You know... tripods can be cheaply obtained from Wal-Mart for less than $30, they are useful in freeing up a second hand to help in unboxing and alleviating headaches from your viewers.
James @ Nov 11th 2006 1:48AM
Somewhere else said that Nintendo hand delivered those in an icecream truck so it could have come in those plain white unaddressed boxes.
RaDd @ Nov 11th 2006 3:14AM
bloggingcameraguy is using a camcorder with a built in hard drive...you can hear it, that just convinced myself not to buy one :-(
a camcorder with a hard drive, i mean
i'm TOTALLY being a Wii though!!!
RaDd @ Nov 11th 2006 3:17AM
***where'd those typos come from? too much booze :-(
*that convinced me not to buy on
*i'm totally BUYING a wii
Thomas Felder @ Nov 11th 2006 4:30AM
Haha... "This is the moment Wii've all been waiting for..."
Pakman @ Nov 11th 2006 8:58AM
Wii Sports? Maybe it was under the Wii itself. And the disk in drawer 1 was probably the the "startup disk" with the firmware updates. But where was the Wii Sports?
everrette powell @ Nov 11th 2006 10:17AM
i am loving these videos
Breezie @ Nov 11th 2006 11:15AM
Wii Sports is bundled with all the manuals...No box, just a sleeve.
Sean Murphy @ Nov 11th 2006 2:44PM
The Wii was delivered by armored car (at least IGN's was). Matt even got an escort up to his desk and he had to sign off on it. I'm wondering if Engadget got the same treatment.
The packaging doesn't look to frail to me. If you're shipping a bunch of bulk units you don't really need to pack the thing like a tank. Everything is firmly held in place and there's 1-2" of breathing room around all the edges it seems, looks nice to me.

Timerider @ Nov 11th 2006 6:15PM
I'm trying to download the QVGA MP4 file but it keeps freezing in the middle of the download.
Brian Whitney @ Nov 11th 2006 8:45PM
Word of Advice:
Get a FECKING TRIPOD IF YOU EVER PLAN TO DO ANY KIND OF UN-BOXING VIDEOS!!!!!!!1
It's retarded to do this kind of thing shaky-cam and one-handed.
DORK.
Prezzie @ Nov 12th 2006 3:49AM
Thanks for the Unbox and all.
But next time, for the sake of making the vids more profesional and better for the viewers, have on person hold the camera, and another do the unbox.
chris @ Nov 12th 2006 12:21PM
the shipping is exactly the same as the ds lite
rymen @ Nov 13th 2006 2:39PM
That was so exploiting teens-- it was awesome!
sheppy @ Nov 13th 2006 2:48PM
It does look cheap looking, but it is the cheapest console on the market, though if it does the job no complaints here,
Pete @ Nov 14th 2006 10:59PM
For crying out loud-- go to a camera store and buy a damn tripod.
jamesliu @ Aug 6th 2007 6:53AM
it looks like your in a jail cell. lol wii is great. i wanna take a deeper look at the press kit.
