HP and Newton cozy up for branded MoGo Mouse
The MoGo MouseBT sure has gotten plenty of press love this year, and now it looks to be getting another big push from a big name: HP. The creatively named "HP Bluetooth PC Card Mouse" keeps the exact specs of the MoGo MouseBT -- PC card slot stashing, Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable battery, touch sensitive scroll-wheel -- with the mere addition of a slapped-on HP logo and the relevant sales push. We haven't spotted a pic of the HP version yet, but we'll be sure to share it with you when we do.

Has anyone used one of these, and if so, how good are they?
I have one for my TC1100 tablet. I spent a week with it off-site in a hotel room and it was a true lifesaver.
So, howzabout an ExpressCard-sized version?
clever idea
2nd to the expresscard version - however - it may end up defeating the purpose - the PC card version actually feels like a normal mouse to the hand
waitaminute....
That thing's a MOUSE?!
I may be wrong, but don't most laptops cut power to the card slots when they are turned off? If so, then isn't the charching mechanism of this a little silly, unless you are likely to have it powered up on a desk and not being used for long periods? And if that's the case, surely space isn't an issue, making the requirement of this mouse a little silly?
Your comment is correct in theory but in practice the mouse gathers enough charge from the slot in a few minutes to power it for many hours of use. Regular users don't report any problems with battery life.
Their is a video of the HP version @ http://www.newtonperipherals.com/ now
I have the previous version of this mouse so I can tell you its pros and cons
Pros
- It is easy and comfortable to use surprisingly
- When I am in class it is great to just pull out my laptop and whip out the wireless mouse for class, its great
- When I am at my apartment I use my laptop with a wired mouse because it is more accurate, this gives my MoGo time to charge
Cons
- the version I have only has 500 dpi so it is a bit jumpy
Thats pretty much my entire review.
wow...this thing is amazing. i cant wait to get one of them. btw, the pc card slot's power is not cut off when ur charging ur laptop. i usually charge my tablet at night and then use it the next day without a charge for like 10 hours (9 cell), so, this is perfect for me. i dont have to carry around my mouse anymore. it can conveniently fit in the pc card slot.
apart from that, it charges in like a couple of mins. i think anyone can wait like 5 or so and use their laptop mouse instead.
Are you sure this version has a touch sensitive scroll wheel? The lack of that feature is what kept me from buying one when they first came out.
Aww.. the lack of the PC card slot in my laptop never really bothered me...
until now :-( *envy*
Current reviews from Sep/Oct 2006 say no scroll "wheel", and all current Google search results for "HP Bluetooth PC Card Mouse" do not mention scroll.
Too bad, since I too was waiting for a scroll pad or something. But there might still be hope...
Its sad, two months prior to this product coming out I had the same idea. I had worked for a small tech company at the time (whom has contacts with BT mice manufacturers) and we were going to patent the idea and create it. Then one day surfing Engadget I saw it. It was a sad day :( Glad to see HP picked up the product.
I own the MoGo branded version of this mouse and it is only a two button mouse. Sorry folks, but there is no scroll capability and no third button.
Hey Brian Evers, You're right about the lack of a touch sensitive scroll-wheel. I heard someone saying there maybe a new version featuring one, but there isn't one yet. Too bad, it's the only reason I haven't picked one up.
just got my hp mogo today, it is VERY jumpy at high speed setting, turned it down in control panel and its worth the extra distance to move the cursor on this great piece of technology :)
Does the latest version of the HP or Mogo Mouse have a scroll pad?
At their website http://www.newtonperipherals.com/Documents/DataSheets/NEW-6273%20datasheetX54_72.pdf they say the new one will have the ability of a scroll pad, but the product will be out by June 2007, I just can't wait to buy one.
Does the latest version of the PC Card HP or Mogo Mouse have the scroll pad? It looks like the ExpressCard/X54 version has this capability.
I currently sell these and I thought I would let you know that there is no scroll wheel on any version HP/Mogo and the new ExpressCard version and the Bluetooth adaptor will be available Q2 07
with regard to battery life I currently use one and I have never experienced a problem (my laptop is on for about 10hrs a day)
- thanks Sam and if you would want to buy one please email me sam@pp-international.co.uk
