PS3 unboxing!

Alright, so maybe our man in Japan beat us to the punch this weekend with an unboxing of the Japanese retail version PS3, but whatevs, we've got an unboxing of the North American retail version right here for ya. Click on for all the love.

We didn't have the guts to find out what happens if you don't remove stuff from the box in the proper order.

Wait for it!

Not pictured is the HDMI cable Sony was kind enough to throw in. Guess if you're reviewing this thing they wouldn't want you to have to hunt for a cable yourself.

Yup, shiny as hell!

PATHETIC that a $600 dollar console that is all about being HD this and HD that doesn't come with AT LEAST component video cables at the very least. It's something ANYONE who wants to take advantage of the PS3 will need to purchase, why not freakin include it. UGH
Why does eveyone bitch so much about not including an HDMI cable?? They are cheap to get (on monoprice) and the Plasma TV i jsut bought (which is way more expensive than the PS3) had one lousy cable in it (av only-) you can not even get HD on my TV with out a third party cable- who cares?
Most of us got our HDMI cables when we bought our TV set. I really don't see the need for Sony to put one in the Box. I just bought a Sony Grand Wega 60" LCoS and it came with 3 HDMI cables. Why would I want any more? Most HDMI tvs come with at least one cable, and if you have HD cable, they give you the HDMI cables free for it.
What's the big deal? I would imagine like 85% of the users have HDMI cables already at home, and the few who don't can buy one for $25. I'd much rather that then, Sony making the price HIGHER and INCLUDING an HDMI cable in the box.
Not to mention the "component" cable is HDMI on one end and component on the other end to support the suckers who have crappy plasmas. It still DOES HD folks. It's just nicer to have HDMI to HDMI.
I have like 6 cables sitting around.
On launch day I have 5ish (hopefully the 5th guy comes through) PS3 I'm buying to resell around christmas (i really hope it's true that there will be no more shipments till march, otherwise I'll have to offload these consoles in a hurry)
Question I have is will the ps2 av cables be compatible with this unit? I know the 360 changed their cords when they went from x-box to 360... I have a component cable from my ps2 I would love to use if I can.
What's the point of having an extremely poor av cable with this supposed "high definition" gaming console. The 360 has componant and composite on one cable. This really is for suckers with too much money and no sense or style.
Also, component is just fine. Hdmi is great if you have more than two inputs... currently I am using one HDMI with my Panasonic dvd-s77 upconverting player, and another with my hd box. I suppose I COULD buy a hdmi switch box, or an expensive surround receiver with multi hdmi ins & outs... well I'm off topic now :P
"SuPeRCrAzYoi!: This really is for suckers with [...] no sense or style."
OK... so what is the console of choice for pre-teens who type their name in alternating caps?
will you be able to watch blu-ray on the PS3 through component? something on the PS3 website (really crappy wording) makes it sound like blu-ray will only work at 1080p and with the HDMI cable. doesn't make sense if that is true.
and engadget giveaways in our future?? aww come on share the love ;)
Shiny = annoying in my opinion. I'll go ahead and admit although I loved my older iPod photo, I hated the glossy crap. My new black iPod Nano 2G is much better with its unglossy finish.
In addition, notice Sony's lack of support for HD for their customers. It looks like they're leaving ALL of their customers out for HD for that nice new Bluray disc included...
Why are you people complaining about the missing HDMI cable? Darnit! Sony is losing a tone of money for each system they sell.... If you look at a $3000 HD TV, it doesn't even come with an HDMI cable. A $3000 dollar TV that has margin of more than 30% doesn't even include the cable; how do you expect the PS3, which has margin of prolly -30% to provide an HDMI cable? Give SONY a break...they're just trying to make some money from peripherals!
The word Playstation3 and Spiderman2 both have the same font. Hmmm.
SHENANIGANS!!! I CALL SHENANIGANS!!!
You mean to tell me, after all the enima induced OMGWTFLOLBBQ, "real time weapon change", "historically accurate... giant crabs", "RIDGE RACER", "True 1080p" hoopla! This thing only comes with COMPOSITE CABLES!
SHENANIGANS!!!
"The word Playstation3 and Spiderman2 both have the same font. Hmmm."
You're kidding me, right? Spider-Man is made by Columbia Pictures. Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which in turn is owned by Sony Group, which owns Sony Corporation, which owns Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., which designed and made the PlayStation 3.
Ok if HDMI cables are so freakin cheap then why the f@ didn't Sony put one in the box... grrrr... Sony do you realize how many people are gonna open up their PS3 and say where the f@#& is the HDMI cable and have to go back to some store to buy one??? It's not they are expensive it's the inconvenience of having to go back to a store and buy one!!
"We didn't have the guts to find out what happens if you don't remove stuff from the box in the proper order. "
It explodes.
Looks like you can buy one online off the www.bestbuy.ca website
And yet, still the same boring controller...
When will they change the horrible ergonomics of that black plastic crap..
i just want to know if it is region free and if you can use old controllers and the like with the usp adapter u can get els where?
who cares if the package box isn't pretty... its not like you're ever going to use it after opening the damn thing. yall need to get a life and stop complaining about little things!
ohhhh man, thats sweet! i want one!!!!
I agree that the lack of an HDMI cable is ridiculous. Sure, SOME televisions come with them, and yeah, Sony is losing some money on these things, but frankly I don't give a shit. Going on and on about hi-def and 1080p and all that and then packaging even the expensive version of the console with a composite cable is insulting. Even component would make me feel better. My 360 included a cable that did both!
Well... at least the system supports it. I'm so sad that the Wii is stuck with 480p. Nintendo's argument that not enough people own HDTVs yet is just stupid, and more importantly it's untrue. Even if it were true, what's the harm in supporting it? You make the people that CAN use it very happy, and the ones that can't won't notice a difference. It almost makes me not want to buy a Wii at all...
(Almost.)
An unboxing works much better when you have an asian race queen doing it. Please include one in future articles, thanks.
ps3 good for me!
