Vista already getting passed around the internet
It hasn't even been out of the nest a full week yet, but already those nefarious software pirates who drive prices up for everyone else have taken the little birdie known as Windows Vista and begun passing it around the interwebs like a hot potato. A quick search of the more popular BitTorrent sites reveals that numerous copies of the RTM version of Vista are available for download, but being the law-abiding netizens that we are, we can't verify that these are actual working packages or simply 4GB archives of nasty spyware. We really shouldn't have expected anything different from the "free software movement" -- after all, the same thing happened with OS X Leopard after August's WWDC -- but we're sure Microsoft is pleased that this group of "early adopters" has given its latest and greatest product a de facto thumbs up. Just a friendly reminder to everyone who's taken it upon him / herself to load up a copy of the yet-to-be-released OS: enjoy it while you can, because once Redmond starts sending out updates and checking the validity of your install, that boatload of crippled features is going to make your PC a real pain in the ass to operate.[Thanks, Monsieur Cedric]

Yea I downloaded Windows Vista like 4 hours after it "came out". no matter how many ways microsoft tries to secure vista or any os for that fact, there will always be a way to crack it. Its just the harder it gets, the more fun it is. BTW, that biLLGaTes release works great. Thanks billgates. (i mean not just the crack group, but bill gates as well).
Vista will be pirated just like XP, even I could get the RTM but as I have the preRTM installed i see it pointless to really use it at this point since its "too" new for any real hardware and software support to be 100% working (thats just lame wasn't it?)
Why, oh why did you have to bad mouth the free software movement... To my knowledge they don't relate to software piracy, they are advocates of using software that you can legally modify and distribute, so i would assume that they will have no interest in passing along copies of vista... Sheesh
Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates life for me!
Its nice to know that you unbiased respected people at engadget buy into the crap about piracy raising prices. Cause of course it has to be that right? It couldnt be anything like greed, and knowing that people will buy it at whatever price because there are not any alternatives for the average consumer. But of course the greed idea, thats just cliche right? Get a clue.
You know what people complain and complain-if microsoft doesnt push next gen specs people will start talking about microsoft get with the times on hardware etc.
My god vista is a great operating system and microsoft will bring the world to updated hardware-you dont see honda or nissan still supporting 1990-95 vehicles do you?
so why should microsoft support systems made for 98 and xp? usually a product is only supported for 4 years or so, if your crappy hardware cant run the latest then dump that sucka and use the operating systems your pc can run and stop bitching about how vista wont support your computer that simply means vista is not aimed for you period.
to the guy who just recently built his computer whos fault is it that your computer wont run vista like how it should?..is not microsofts
mr johnson, why would you build a P4 system with only half a gig of RAM at this point in time and expect it to run Vista? The system you claim to have built "the other week" would have difficulty running half of the games I own. You should have at least put in a full GB of RAM. Like the previous poster said, don't blame Microsoft for your inability to run Vista. Try building something that isn't good for two years ago.
The more i think about it the more i wanna convert to OSX or linux...i mean seriously this is starting to get out of hand. And until i can get a fully working pirated version of windows vista then im going with the other os's.
